India Accelerates Growth Through Tech Investments

The nation makes strides with new developments in hospitality, technology, and education.

KOLKATA: ITC Hotels Limited (ITCHL) celebrated a significant milestone on January 31, 2025, as it officially listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). This moment marks the beginning of ITC Hotels' independent growth strategy following its demerger from ITC Limited, aligning itself as a pure-play hospitality entity. The company plans to leverage its expansive portfolio of hotels and world-class dining as it embarks on this new chapter.

Speaking at the listing ceremony, ITC Hotels Chairman Sanjiv Puri expressed optimism for the future, stating, "Today is truly historic for ITC Hotels as we transition to this new and exciting era focused exclusively on hospitality." The company commenced its operations with an impressive zero-debt balance sheet and ₹1,500 crore readily available to propel its growth. With ITC Limited retaining a 40% stake, ITCHL is poised for long-term success and development.

The hospitality sector is experiencing revitalization largely due to favorable government policies and the resurgence of domestic tourism. ITC Hotels aims to contribute significantly to the hospitality industry and enrich India's tourism framework. Anil Chadha, Managing Director of ITC Hotels, emphasized the company's future aspirations, saying, "This is the time to reinforce our commitment to building one of India’s finest hospitality chains. We have faith built on trust, innovation, and pride.”

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government is taking considerable steps to boost its economy by launching the ambitious Data City project near Visakhapatnam. Inspired by the success of Hyderabad's Hitec City, this initiative covers 500 acres dedicated to the establishment of data centers and AI solutions. IT minister Nara Lokesh has been instrumental behind this project, which is projected to create around 20 lakh job opportunities within five years.

Google plans to develop its data center on 80 acres of land within the new Data City, showcasing the state's proactive engagement with leading tech firms. Tata Consultancy Services is also set to expand, taking up 30 acres within the area. These developments echo Andhra Pradesh's intent to replicate the technological growth model seen previously with Hitec City, casting Visakhapatnam as a rising technology hub.

To bridge these economic advancements, Andhra Pradesh's government is considering adding tourist attractions nearby, hoping to enrich the local economy and attract more investment. After losing Hyderabad to Telangana during the state bifurcation, these initiatives aim to decentralize economic growth and establish Visakhapatnam as India’s technological frontline.

Adding to the entrepreneurial spirit, the Entrepreneurship Summit 2025 kicked off at IIT (BHU) Varanasi on January 31, featuring the theme "Vortex of Visionaries." This three-day event showcases over 20 distinguished speakers and various discussions on innovation and entrepreneurship, drawing industry leaders together.

The summit's objectives include offering aspiring entrepreneurs valuable networking opportunities and insight through sessions on topics like "Building Consumer Brands to Bharat and Beyond" and potential funding avenues. According to Pranjali Yadav, Vice President of the E-Summit, "The summit promises valuable insights and opportunities for entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas and connect with industry veterans."

Finally, across the globe, Woxsen University has co-hosted the 'Innovation and Inspiration Design Trends (IIDT 2025)' conference in Bahrain, focusing on cross-cultural design trends and sustainability. The conference held on January 27-28, 2025, provided key dialogues on the future of design education and AI's role within the field.

Dr. Adity Saxena, Dean of the School of Arts and Design at Woxsen University, expressed the significance of this collaboration, emphasizing, "Woxsen University is committed to enhancing design education and collaboration through this conference.” This initiative is among many efforts undertaken at Woxsen University, noted for its emphasis on providing houses for innovative designs and fostering global partnerships, which reflects its commitment to growth within the educational sector.

The current initiatives across ITC Hotels, Data City, the Entrepreneurship Summit, and IIDT 2025 showcase India's upward momentum as it invests significantly in technology, hospitality, and education, establishing itself as a fast-growing economic power on the global stage.
