IIMS 2025 Sees Surge In Sales And Visitors

Major automotive event boosts electric vehicle interest and transactions amid traditional models' dominance.

The Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2025 has achieved remarkable results, indicating positive momentum for the national automotive market. According to data gathered until February 21, the number of visitors increased by 3% from last year, reaching approximately 579,000. The transaction value also saw growth, rising by 3.2% from Rp 6.7 trillion to Rp 6.91 trillion. Rudy MF, Project Manager of Dyandra Promosindo, expressed surprise at the surge in both visitors and transactions during the event.

"Typically, more significant increases occur on weekends when consumers, who were initially hesitant, decide to test drive or make purchasing decisions across all categories, including accessories," Rudy noted. Interestingly, conventional vehicles are expected to dominate sales at IIMS 2025, even though numerous new electric vehicle models have been introduced by various brand holders.

PT BYD Motor Indonesia reported strong interest from consumers for its new electric vehicle, the BYD Sealion 7, which debuted on the first day of IIMS 2025. Marketing Head Luther Panjaitan mentioned, "Currently, the Sealion 7 is quite dominant, accounting for around 50% of the interest". The SUV is priced at around Rp 600 million and attracted attention thanks to exclusive test-drive opportunities.

Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) is also seeing positive indicators, claiming about a 20% increase in sales compared to IIMS 2024. HMID aims to sell around 2,000 units during IIMS 2025, with approximately 80% of sales coming from internal combustion engine models, as noted by Chief Sales Officer Moch Diky Zulkarnaen.

Visitors to the Hyundai booth expressed interest predominantly for the performance-driven Hyundai N-Line models, including the Creta N Line and Kona Electric N Line. "New models like the Hyundai Venue are also seeing high demand as they're ready to stock," added Renjes Palopi, Hyundai Sales Executive.

Wuling Motors is another participant reporting strong visitor interest. Sales Executive Fiqih Zein indicated the New Air ev has garnered over 1,000 orders at IIMS 2025, with high interest also for the New Cloud EV.

On February 23, 2025, the showcase is set to conclude, and preliminary reports indicate transactions of around Rp 3.2 trillion, reflecting a 3.2% annual increase. President Director of PT Dyandra Promosindo, Daswar Marpaung, highlighted the event's significant role as the automotive calendar opener, tracking positive trends amid rising visitor numbers from 562,464 last year to approximately 579,337 this year.

Daswar elaborated, "The IIMS has seen steady increases, paving the way for new job opportunities and positive industry growth, thanks to the participation of more than 5,000 workers during the event." He anticipates continued growth as the weekend approaches, which often triggers consumers to finalize purchases.

The event is also notable for its collaboration with VinFast, which became the official partner for Indonesia’s national football team. PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir emphasized VinFast's commitment to supporting both the national team and the broader electric vehicle ecosystem.

Despite finance directors noting challenges within the auto financing industry due to softened market demand, they remain optimistic about vehicle financing prospects. Harry Latif from Adira Finance specified plans to innovate and provide flexible financing options, particularly for electric vehicles, citing significant growth last year with electric vehicle financing reaching Rp 379.6 billion.

Overall, with the automotive sector facing hurdles, reports indicate resilient interest and investments, particularly for electric vehicles as the industry looks to adapt to the changing market conditions.
