IBM Partners With WWF To Innovate Elephant Conservation

New AI solution aims to track African forest elephants and support biodiversity efforts

IBM has joined forces with the World Wide Fund for Nature - Germany (WWF) to tackle wildlife conservation issues through technology. This pivotal partnership aims to develop artificial intelligence solutions to monitor the critically endangered African forest elephant.

IBM's toolkit, particularly the IBM Maximo Visual Inspection (MVI), will be central to the project. This AI-powered software will analyze images, enhancing the capabilities for identifying elephants based on unique characteristics, much like how human fingerprints work.

Kendra Dekeyrel, IBM’s Vice President of ESG and Asset Management, noted how the technology could streamline the identification process of elephants. By marrying IBM's technological capabilities with WWF's conservation knowledge, they aim to speed up sustainability efforts within organizations.

The partnership also intends to utilize IBM Environmental Intelligence solutions, which can dtect vegetation levels and relate these findings to elephant movements.
