Hyundai Motor America is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience for its customers with the introduction of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter program, allowing drivers access to thousands of Tesla Supercharger stations beginning early next year.
Starting from the first quarter of 2025, Hyundai will offer current and new EV owners who have purchased or leased their vehicles before January 31, 2025, the opportunity to request a complimentary NACS adapter through the MyHyundai owner portal. This complimentary adapter will aid CCS-port-equipped Hyundai EV drivers to seamlessly charge at over 20,000 Tesla Supercharger stations within the U.S.
This initiative reflects Hyundai's commitment to enhancing customer convenience as the adoption of electric vehicles continues to grow. Olabisi Boyle, the senior vice president of product planning and mobility strategy at Hyundai Motor North America, emphasized this stride forward: "To accelerate EV adoption, we started by listening to our current owners. These adapters will make DC fast-charging more convenient for current owners."
The program includes eligible vehicles such as the model-year 2024 and older KONA Electric, IONIQ hatchback, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6, alongside the new 2025 IONIQ 6, 2025 IONIQ 5 N, and 2025 KONA Electric. The rollout of this adapter program aligns with Hyundai's vision of easing the transition to electric mobility.
While specific details on how customers can claim their complimentary adapters will be released later, Hyundai assures customers about the steps they will need to take alongside pricing information for additional adapter units, found on HyundaiNews.com and through other communications.
Beyond individual vehicle access, the NACS port and adapter will enable Hyundai EV drivers to utilize more than 38,000 DC fast chargers, which includes both the NACS and Combined Charging System (CCS) chargers available across the country. This move highlights Hyundai’s broader strategy of creating partnerships and technological advancements to improve the overall EV charging infrastructure.
"The NACS port on new models like the upcoming IONIQ 9, along with improvements to our digital charging ecosystem, will greatly improve the customer experience for future EV drivers. Our goal is to make the transition to electric seamless," added Boyle.
Hyundai's electric vehicle ecosystem is becoming increasingly rich as they introduce their innovative electric offerings. The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 will be the first non-Tesla vehicle available with the factory-installed native NACS port, showcasing the company’s commitment to leading the EV charging experience.
The Genesis luxury division is also participating in this program, with additional details expected to be announced early next year. The entrance of Hyundai's luxury brand indicates the company’s thorough approach to making electric mobility convenient across different market segments.
Hyundai Motor America is not only elevative through technological advances but also has a significant impact on the U.S. economy as its operations contribute $20.1 billion annually, supporting around 190,000 jobs. The company operates not only its North American headquarters located in California but also maintains manufacturing facilities like the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama plant and numerous R&D facilities spanning the country.
With these developments, Hyundai is positioning itself as not just another automaker, but as a major player intending to shape the future of electric mobility by directly addressing customer needs and enhancing infrastructure accessibility for EV drivers.
