Huang Ting-feng, known primarily for his work on variety shows, has taken on his first leading role in the currently airing TVB drama series, A Thousand Stars. Speaking about his experience on the project during a radio interview on February 6, 2025, he admitted to feeling overwhelmed when he first received the script.
"When the producer told me about this opportunity, I was genuinely nervous. I had to maintain my composure on the outside, even though I felt shaken. When he asked if I was up for the challenge, I repeatedly assured him, 'Yes! Yes!'" Huang recounted, reflecting on the mixture of excitement and trepidation he felt.
He has never worked with his co-star, Tang Lok-man, before, which added to his anticipation about their chemistry on screen. To his pleasant surprise, he found Tang more animated than some of his fellow male counterparts. "I discovered she brings even more energy to her performance than us guys!" he remarked.
The role is exceptionally multi-dimensional, demanding significant emotional range, something Huang took very seriously. He invested ample time preparing for his character, immersing himself in films featuring character transitions similar to his. One movie he found particularly inspiring was Leonardo DiCaprio's The Wolf of Wall Street.
Huang reflected, “I watched it multiple times, observing how DiCaprio navigated drastic emotional shifts. It gave me insights on portraying my character's depth.” His thorough approach to preparation highlights his commitment to acting and his willingness to learn from exemplary figures within the industry.
Just before A Thousand Stars, Huang wrapped up filming with the renowned actress, Sheren Tang, for another series titled Themis. He described this experience as refreshing and enjoyable. "The very first scene was just the two of us, and I felt nervous, having admired her work since I was young. But I quickly realized how fun she is to collaborate with, and we had such a great time together!" he shared.
With this new venture, Huang is eager to transition fully from his background as a variety show host to focusing primarily on acting. "I really want to invest more time honing my craft as an actor," he expressed, emphasizing his desire to develop his skills and embrace future opportunities to showcase his passion for the art of performance.
Huang Ting-feng's debut as the lead male character, along with his proactive dedication and positive experiences on set, bodes well for his future as he navigates this exciting chapter of his acting career.
