Hoy No Circula Sabatino Restrictions For April 19, 2025

Vehicles with odd-numbered plates and hologram 2 must stay off the roads in Mexico City and Edomex this Saturday.

On Saturday, April 19, 2025, the Hoy No Circula Sabatino program will be in effect once again in Mexico City and the State of Mexico, as part of ongoing efforts to combat air pollution. This environmental measure, which has been operational since 1989, aims to restrict the circulation of certain vehicles based on their environmental verification hologram and license plate numbers, particularly on weekends when traffic is typically heavier.

The Hoy No Circula Sabatino program is particularly important during dry and warm months, such as April, when ozone levels tend to rise. On this specific Saturday, vehicles with hologram 1 and plates ending in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, and 9) are prohibited from circulating between 5:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Additionally, vehicles with hologram 2, regardless of plate number, and foreign vehicles without verification are also restricted during these hours.

According to the latest guidelines, vehicles with hologram 0 and 00, as well as electric and hybrid cars, can circulate without restrictions. This exemption is crucial for promoting cleaner transportation options while still addressing the pressing issue of air quality in the metropolitan area.

The fine for violating the Hoy No Circula regulations can range from 20 to 30 times the Unidad de Medida y Actualización (UMA), which translates to approximately $2,171 to $3,256 Mexican pesos. In addition to the financial penalty, vehicles caught violating the restrictions may be towed, leading to further costs for retrieval and storage.

The Hoy No Circula program applies not only to Mexico City but also extends to 18 municipalities in the State of Mexico, including notable areas such as Nezahualcóyotl, Ecatepec, and Naucalpan. These municipalities are subject to the same rules as those in the capital, emphasizing the importance of collective action in reducing vehicular emissions.

For residents and visitors planning to use their vehicles this Saturday, it's essential to be aware of the restrictions to avoid fines. The program aims to reduce pollution levels and improve air quality, which is a growing concern for the health of the population.

Despite concerns about air quality, there will not be a double Hoy No Circula this Saturday, even though the Air Quality Index reported poor conditions the day before. The Comisión Ambiental de la Megalópolis (CAMe) did not declare an environmental contingency, meaning that the standard restrictions will apply as usual.

It's worth noting that the Hoy No Circula Sabatino operates differently than the weekday program. For instance, vehicles with hologram 1 and odd-numbered plates cannot circulate on the first and third Saturdays of each month, while those with even-numbered plates are restricted on the second and fourth Saturdays. If a month has a fifth Saturday, only vehicles with hologram 2 and foreign plates will be affected.

In summary, the Hoy No Circula Sabatino program serves as a vital tool in combating air pollution in Mexico City and its surrounding areas. As the region continues to grapple with environmental challenges, adherence to these restrictions is essential for improving air quality and public health.
