Hoy No Circula Restrictions Apply Today March 13, 2025

Vehicle restrictions are enforced today to combat pollution levels across Mexico City and surrounding areas.

The program ‘Hoy No Circula’ operates normally on Thursday, March 13, 2025, across Mexico City and the State of Mexico. Residents are encouraged to check the provisions established by the Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe) before heading out and explore public transport alternatives.

This Thursday, vehicles affected by the program include:

  • Those with the green sticker.

  • Vehicles with license plates ending with 1 and 2.

  • Vehicles with holograms 1 and 2.

These restrictions take effect from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It's important to note specific exemptions outlined by the Secretariat of the Environment. Vehicles featuring holograms 0 and 00, along with electric and hybrid vehicles classified as Type I and II, are exempt from these restrictions, allowing them to circulate freely. Also included are emergency vehicles, public transport, and vehicles utilized by health workers if authorized.

The fines for non-compliance with the Hoy No Circula program can be steep. According to the Environmental Law and Metropolitan Transit Regulation, drivers caught on restricted days can be subject to economic penalties ranging from 20 to 30 Unit Measures and Updating (UMA), translating to approximately 2,262.80 to 3,394.20 pesos. The hefty fines aim to encourage adherence to the program and mitigate pollution levels.

Checking for traffic fines related to these restrictions is straightforward. Residents can enter the Mobility Secretariat's official website and navigate to the 'Consult Traffic Infractions' option. By entering their car's license plate number through their 'Unique CDMX Key' account, they can discover any outstanding fines.

On this day, March 13, 2025, adherence to the Hoy No Circula regulations is imperative to avoid penalties. Proper compliance helps manage traffic and reduce the impact of vehicular emissions during periods of high pollution.

Vehicle restrictions are effective across the 16 boroughs of Mexico City and 18 municipalities within the State of Mexico. The initiative is meant to control pollution levels, especially considering the already problematic air quality affecting citizens.

Notably, reports from March 12 indicated worrying air quality levels, particularly high concentrations of O3 detected around Tlalpan, Gustavo A. Madero, and Álvaro Obregón, categorizing the air as having very poor quality. Despite the alarming pollution levels, no Contingency or Double Hoy No Circula was activated, so today, the program continues as per usual.

Exceptions to the program include motorcycles, heavy cargo vehicles, public transport, and taxis where their operation is permissible from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, irrespective of the current sticker or license plate. Health-related vehicles with appropriate verification are also exempt from restrictions, ensuring they can efficiently serve the public.

Besides pollution control, the program endeavours to push citizens toward sustainable transportation solutions. The vehicle restrictions will be reassessed depending on the air quality status through the day, and users are urged to remain vigilant for changing conditions.

Official announcements from CAMe functioning through the day will keep residents updated on potential adjustments or the activation of more intensive restrictions should pollution levels rise significantly.
