A woman has been charged over the alleged extended torture and abuse of a four-year-old girl south of Brisbane. Queensland Police charged the 32-year-old woman with multiple offences, including torture and grievous bodily harm, following a major investigation concerning the alarming allegations of child abuse. Detectives from the Logan Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) were informed about concerns related to the child’s significant injuries, prompting them to launch a high-risk missing person investigation, code-named Operation Xray Cinder.
According to police, the investigation uncovered disturbing evidence pointing to sustained and severe physical abuse inflicted upon the child over what they described as an extended period. The little girl was found on January 9 and was immediately taken to Logan Hospital, where medical staff reported extensive injuries, including bruising, burns, fractures, and disfigurement.
Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis commented on the severity of the young victim's condition, saying, “The alleged physical abuse this little girl endured is among the worst I have seen in my career.” He added, “Her injuries are horrific and highlight the unimaginable suffering she has experienced.” He noted the initial response of general duties officers, alongside the detailed investigation by CPIU detectives, were instrumental, declaring, “The investigation saved this child’s life.”
Police allege the woman attempted to conceal the child and her injuries by moving her to various addresses prior to her discovery. She was arrested on January 24 and has since faced charges totaling 29, which include six counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, 18 counts of supplying dangerous drugs, and one count each of torture and grievous bodily harm. The woman was denied police bail and remains in custody, with her next appearance scheduled for March 19 at Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
