Hong Kong Drama Series Launches With Laughter And Anticipation

Cast members share personal anecdotes and excitement for their new series at promotional event.

The excitement surrounding the launch of the new Hong Kong drama series Running Brave: The Women Who Dare was palpable during a promotional event held on January 4, 2025, at Tsuen Wan. The main cast along with notable supporters gathered to mingle with fans, play games, and perform, lending their unique brand of energy to the show’s debut.

Leading the promotional efforts were actors Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) and Jinny Ng (吳若希), who engaged the audience with anecdotes both funny and insightful. Jinny, who plays a significant role alongside Edwin, shared her hilarious experiences working with him. "He made me completely reconsider my idea of what 'greasy' really is!" Jinny exclaimed, recalling her discomfort during one particularly intense scene they filmed together. "We were shooting this hero-rescue moment, and he was so 'greasy' in character, I honestly felt sick! I had to bolt to the restroom right after the scene cut!"

Edwin, known for his comedic timing, laughed off Jinny’s remarks, saying, "I thought I was nailing it, but it turns out I was just making her nauseous!" This charming banter highlighted the playful camaraderie among the cast members, making for an entertaining atmosphere during the event.

Both actors expressed their gratitude for the support from the show’s crew, especially since filming happened during a challenging time when multiple cast members were sick. Edwin remarked, "There’s no such thing as ‘never again’ within this industry, especially if we stay within it," alluding to the many opportunities for collaboration within Hong Kong’s vibrant entertainment scene.

Interspersing humor with heartfelt sentiments, the cast took turns discussing their growth as performers and the significance of their characters. The series not only aims to entertain but also weave important narratives about women's courage and resilience.

Jinny shared poignant reflections about motherhood, inspired by her recent experiences as she prepares for another addition to her family. She comforted Edwin, who is about to become a father himself, saying, "The best thing is just being there for your baby. Otherwise, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or anxious!" Jinny recalled her own challenges when her son was born and required special care, saying, "I felt like I was going through it all alone, staring at the sea from the hospital balcony, but the moment I was reunited with my baby, it was all worth it!"

Beyond their personal anecdotes, the promotional event showcased live performances, including Jinny’s heartfelt rendition of the series' theme song. She remarked, "Singing this song, it’s like I’m sharing our characters' journeys with you all!" This heartfelt moment struck a chord with the audience, who were visibly engaged.

Among other cast members, actress Carman (關嘉敏) shared her excitement about her own role and her preparation for the recent awards season, showcasing her commitment to both acting and her singing career. "I’ve lost over 20 pounds for this role, and let me tell you, it’s not easy! But nothing can deter me from pursuing my dreams, especially with so many great actresses out there!"

The event’s lively atmosphere was intensified when discussions turned to the recent departure of one of the series' directors, Ho Yuen Dong (何遠東). The cast respected his decision to leave after 16 years, with Jinny expressing hope he would return to support future projects. “If he ever wants to promote, he can just come back anytime! This was our first drama together,” she said, holding onto fond memories of their collaboration.

Wrapping up the event, the cast reiterated their hopes for the series as it embarks on its television run. With vibrant performances, touching stories, and heartfelt exchanges, Running Brave: The Women Who Dare is set to captivate audiences with themes of bravery and endurance.
