Hong Kong Cinema Day Offers Tickets For Just HKD 30

Excitement builds as ticket sales begin for May 10 event featuring over 70 films.

Hong Kong's cinemas are set to host the eagerly anticipated "Cinema Day" on Saturday, May 10, 2025, offering moviegoers a chance to enjoy films at a flat ticket price of HKD 30. This promotional event, now in its third year, aims to attract a wider audience to theaters across the city.

Tickets for the event went on sale at noon today, May 7, 2025, and are available at major cinema chains and online ticketing platforms. However, Broadway Cinema will begin its ticket sales on-site starting May 9, 2025. The promotion has already generated significant excitement, with reports of long queues forming at various cinema websites shortly after ticket sales commenced.

According to reports, MCL Cinemas and Emperor Cinemas experienced overwhelming demand, with MCL's website showing nearly 16,000 people in the queue within just 15 minutes of ticket sales opening. The Broadway Circuit website indicated an estimated waiting time of 308 minutes, highlighting the intense interest in this year's event.

"Cinema Day" will feature over 70 films across various genres, ensuring there's something for everyone. Among the highlights are blockbuster titles such as "Thor: Love and Thunder," local productions like "Lost Love" and "Raging Fire," and the 25th Anniversary 4K Director's Cut of "In the Mood for Love." Animation fans can look forward to films like "Nezha: Reborn" and "Shin Chan Movie 2023," while cinephiles can enjoy an extended version of "The Burrow," which runs for 140 minutes.

Participating cinema chains include Emperor Cinemas, MCL Cinemas, Broadway Circuit, Cinema City, CGV D2 Place, and Lumen Cinema, among others. Each cinema will enforce a limit of four tickets per person for both on-site and online purchases. However, the promotion excludes venue bookings and special programs.

While the ticket price is set at HKD 30 for all films, there will be no additional discounts for seniors, children, or students on that day. Senior citizen concessions that are priced below HKD 30 will remain unchanged, but other cinema discounts and movie vouchers will not be applicable during the event.

The initiative aims to boost cinema attendance and provide an affordable entertainment option for the public. With ticket sales already trending, it seems likely that "Cinema Day" will be a hit among movie lovers in Hong Kong.

As the day approaches, many are eager to see how the event unfolds, with expectations of a bustling atmosphere in theaters across the city. The Hong Kong Movie Association has expressed optimism about the event's potential to revitalize interest in cinema-going, especially as the industry continues to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

In summary, "Cinema Day" is shaping up to be a significant occasion for Hong Kong's film industry, combining affordable entertainment with a diverse selection of films. With the excitement building and ticket sales already indicating high demand, moviegoers are encouraged to act quickly to secure their seats for this special day.
