Hombres G Returns With New Album And Personal Milestones

David Summers shares insights on music, family, and love as band promotes their latest work.

After 40 years in the music industry, Spanish pop-rock band Hombres G is back in the spotlight, promoting their new album, ¿Por qué no ser amigos?, which is set to be released on April 11, 2025. The band, known for its iconic hits like 'Devuélveme a mi chica' and 'Marta tiene un marcapasos,' visited the popular Spanish talk show El Hormiguero on March 31, 2025, to discuss their latest work and share personal insights.

David Summers, the band's lead vocalist, expressed his excitement about the new album, which features collaborations with contemporary artists such as Beret, Morat, Álvaro de Luna, and Carín León. "We have given absolute freedom to these new singers to reinvent our songs," Summers stated. He believes the result is a collection of beautiful tracks, adding, "It’s difficult to mess it up, but they’ve done some really cool versions." The album is not just a nostalgic trip but a fresh take on their classic hits, breathing new life into their legacy.

During their appearance, the band also touched on the topic of Artificial Intelligence in music. Dani Mezquita, the band's guitarist, voiced concerns about the evolving role of AI in creative fields, suggesting that it may lead to a loss of the human touch in artistry. "We have to get used to it," he remarked, while Summers admitted to feeling a bit apprehensive about the technology's rapid advancement. "It’s scary how everything is evolving..." he added, highlighting the potential impact on music and creativity.

Looking ahead, Hombres G has one upcoming performance scheduled for the SanSan Festival in Benicàssim on Good Friday, where they plan to delight fans with their hits. Additionally, the band is working on a documentary film that chronicles their journey over the past four decades. Summers confirmed that they have been recording events around them for four years, with the goal of releasing the film in about a year.

David Summers, who was born on February 26, 1964, in Madrid, has had a rich personal life alongside his musical career. He was previously married to Marta Madruga for 26 years, a relationship that inspired many of his love songs. The couple, who met during the filming of the movie Sufre Mamón, welcomed twins, Daniel and Lucía, before announcing their separation in 2018. Summers reflected on his children's talents, noting, "Dani plays guitar beautifully and writes songs... Lucía also composes, but in English." Daniel, who has autism, is pursuing a music career, while Lucía has chosen a different path as a veterinary nurse and runs a piercing and tattoo studio in Madrid.

Despite the end of his first marriage, Summers found love again with Christine Cambeiro, an English teacher who is 16 years his junior. The couple met in New York during a Hombres G concert at the iconic Copacabana club, where sparks flew. "I would never have dated a fan, but she was not a fan. She came to the concert because a friend invited her," Summers explained. Their relationship blossomed, and they tied the knot in July 2024 in an intimate ceremony outside Madrid. Summers described the moment he saw Christine in her wedding dress as "impressive," highlighting her beauty and the depth of their connection.

In addition to his personal milestones, Summers has reflected on his musical journey, stating, "The first and only goal for us artists when we started was to meet girls and have fun. That’s why we formed the band, and it worked wonderfully." He humorously recalled the wild concerts of the 1980s, where fans would throw not just bras but also dolls and even a Rolex onto the stage.

As Hombres G continues to celebrate their legacy, they remain relevant in the contemporary music scene, embracing new collaborations while cherishing their past. Their ability to adapt and evolve in a changing industry showcases their enduring appeal and commitment to their craft. With their new album on the horizon and a film in the works, the band is poised to captivate both longtime fans and new listeners alike.

As they prepare for their upcoming performance and the release of their new album, Hombres G exemplifies how music can transcend generations, connecting people through shared experiences and memories. David Summers, now at 61, continues to inspire with his passion for music and his journey through life.
