Holiday Season Business Hours Across Brazil

Restaurants, public services, and shops update schedules for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

During the holiday season, many people are eager to plan activities, especially on festive days like Christmas. Whether it’s dining out or attending to necessary errands, it's important to know which businesses and services will be open. Here’s what you need to know about the holiday season business and service schedules.

Starting with Salvador, on December 25, several restaurants will be open to cater to holiday diners. For those seeking to enjoy meals out instead of leftovers from Christmas dinner, establishments like 705 Restaurante will open for lunch from 12 PM to 5 PM, and 5571 will welcome guests from 12 PM to 10 PM. Many of these locations will offer substantial menus, perfect for families and friends gathering during this festive time.

Among the options available, Alfredo’Ro will serve lunch from 12 PM to 4 PM, whereas Allê Varanda Bar and Amado will be operational from noon until 11 PM. For early risers, breakfast enthusiasts can enjoy Gero | Fasano Salvador, serving from 7 AM to 10 AM, followed by lunch from 12 PM to 3 PM. There's also something for those wanting lighter fare; places like Coffeetown will be open from 9 AM to 9:30 PM.

While many eateries are embracing the festive spirit by keeping their doors open, public services will observe different schedules. Moving to Rio Branco, several public offices including the Organização em Centros de Atendimento (OCA) and Departmento Estadual de Trânsito (Detran) will remain closed on both December 24 and 25. Essential services, particularly within healthcare—like emergency departments and urgent care facilities—will function as usual, ensuring help is available for those who need it.

Also opening their doors to serve the community are specialized police stations which will maintain operation to assist the public during the holidays. The judicial system will operate under limited hours, addressing only urgent matters during this period. This ensures access to justice remains uninterrupted, even as many services close for the holiday season.

Retail operations will also have varied hours. The Correios will reduce their hours to six on December 24, closing entirely on Christmas Day. Most banks will close at midday on December 24, with no services available on December 25. Active shopping centers like Via Verde Shopping will feature stores, kiosks, and dining options available from 9 AM until 6 PM on December 24, with holiday hours varying from one store to another on Christmas Day depending on the management's decision.

With health services remaining integral during the holidays, healthcare facilities including hospitals will be prepared to operate uninterrupted, managing emergency care and specialised services. This commitment to community health is observed with all emergency care units and hospitals remaining functional, ensuring necessary medical assistance is readily accessible. For holiday activities such as cinema outings, most cinemas will stick to their usual schedules, providing entertainment for families throughout the festive season.

Looking at Toledo, unique changes also accompany their holiday scheduling. The local government announced mandatory closures on certain days leading up to and following the season, including December 23, 24, 30, and 31, with operations returning on December 26. The cultural scene—including the Biblioteca Pública Municipal and Museu Histórico Willy Barth—will function on limited days, open only on December 26 and 27.

Outdoor attractions like the Aquário Municipal Dr. Romolo Martinelli will welcome visitors before the holidays. They’ll be open for tours on December 24 and 30, but they will close on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Meanwhile, community health services such as the Unit of Pronto Atendimento will maintain extended hours through the festive period, making sure residents can access care when needed. Public health commitments shine brightly amid holiday celebrations as units stay operational.

For those using waste collection services, most will see regular schedules, with only the New Year’s Eve closing operations. This remains important to manage the seasonal excess of waste typically associated with holiday festivities. Restaurants and services catering to the community, particularly those providing meals to those in need, will resume operations shortly after the festive period ends.

Finally, as New Year’s celebrations draw near, plans are already underway for community festivities. The Festa da Virada, one of Brazil's largest New Year celebrations, promises excitement with concerts, fireworks, and community gatherings, marking the end of the year and the arrival of 2025 with joy.

With holiday dining, shopping, and necessary public services operating on varying schedules, it is clear preparation is key to ensuring enjoyment during this festive period. Make sure to check specific times for restaurants and shops, as variations exist. Planning will help avoid last-minute surprises, allowing for joyful holiday celebrations with family and friends.
