During the Christmas and New Year celebrations, public transportation systems across Mexico, including those of Monterrey and Mexico City, are adopting special holiday schedules to meet the needs of their users.
Monterrey’s Sistema de Transporte Colectivo Metrorrey announced adjustments for the holiday season, ensuring users can navigate the city with ease during these important dates. On December 24 and 31, the Metro will run from 4:45 AM to 11:00 PM, maintaining its regular hours for these busy days.
On the day of Christmas and New Year (December 25 and January 1), services will begin later, at 7:00 AM, allowing for adjustments needed for the festive morning celebrations. Metrorrey encourages its users to plan their trips accordingly to avoid inconveniences.
Special routes on the Transmetro will also adopt modified schedules. On December 24, routes such as 96, 611 La Arena, and 611 San Andrés will operate between 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Route 88 will run from 4:30 AM until 8:00 PM, followed by additional routes with specific hours adjusted to accommodate seasonal demand:
- Route 116: 4:20 AM - 8:20 PM
- Route 232 unidad San Marcos: 3:50 AM - 9:00 PM
- Route 220: 4:00 AM - 9:00 PM (various designs)
On December 25, most of the same routes will operate from 5:00 AM to 9:30 PM, extending the availability of public transport for users visiting family and friends during the holiday. The fare for the Metro remains unchanged at $8.50 per ride, with Transmetro tickets costing $15.00.
Moving to Mexico City, the Red de Movilidad Integrada announced similar changes to its schedules for the holidays, ensuring seamless transit for locals and visitors alike during Nochebuena and Navidad. On December 24 and 31, Metro and Metrobús services will operate regular hours but start later on Christmas day and New Year’s Day. For example:
- Metro: December 24 - 5:00 AM - 11:00 PM; December 25 - 7:00 AM - 12:00 AM.
- Metrobús: December 24 - 4:00 AM - 11:00 PM; December 25 - 5:00 AM - 12:00 AM.
This consistent modification across numerous services throughout both cities is aimed at making the holiday travel experience smoother and more accessible. Ride options such as Trolebús and Tren Ligero will follow similar scheduling trends, aimed at maximizing convenience for all users.
Commuters should also note Ecobici services will remain open for bike use during these special hours, encouraging cycling as another option for travel during the celebrations.
Attention to detail is key, and Metrorrey, along with the Integrated Mobility Network, urges users to remain mindful of these adjustments, urging everyone to plan their journeys accordingly. With busy celebrations and families gathering, it is always wise to check public transportation schedules before heading out to avoid last-minute surprises!
It’s worth mentioning as well the methods of payment available across these services, which include the Me Muevo Card, Urbani QR code, MIA Card, and cash accepted at vending machines present at metro stations.
The aim is to provide not only exceptional service but also efficiency for all riders during this festive time of the year. Users are advised to take note of the operational hours and to do their best to utilize the available services responsibly this holiday season.
Happy holidays from the public transport authorities, reminding everyone to travel safely and enjoy the celebrations!
