Ho Chi Minh City Prepares For 50th Anniversary Parade

Families are advised to follow safety tips for a joyful experience at the historic event.

As the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South approaches, Ho Chi Minh City is gearing up for a grand celebration on April 30, 2025. This event is set to attract thousands of spectators eager to witness the parade and festivities commemorating this significant milestone in Vietnamese history. With such a large turnout expected, officials are urging attendees to prepare adequately for a safe and enjoyable experience.

The parade will feature a spectacular display of military might and cultural performances, drawing families and individuals from across the region. To ensure safety and comfort, especially for families with young children, it is crucial to follow certain guidelines and recommendations.

First and foremost, parents should keep a close eye on the parade schedule and routes as announced by local authorities. This information will help them choose optimal viewing spots and reduce the stress of navigating through crowded areas, particularly in the heat of late April.

Arriving early is essential. It allows families to secure a good spot while avoiding the rush that typically accompanies large events. According to local sources, it is advisable to select locations that are not too close to the main parade route to avoid the densest crowds while still being able to enjoy the spectacle.

For parents with children under three years old, it is advisable to carry them or use a baby carrier to prevent exhaustion or the risk of getting lost in the crowd. Older children should be reminded to hold hands with adults and carry contact information in case of separation. Additionally, teaching children to recognize security personnel can be beneficial in emergencies.

When it comes to attire, families should opt for light, breathable clothing that allows for easy movement and is suitable for warm weather. Essential items to bring include water, hats for sun protection, hand fans to stay cool, and any personal medications that might be necessary. Snacks are also recommended to keep energy levels up, especially during the long wait for the festivities to begin.

As the parade is expected to last between five to six hours, it is wise for families to eat adequately before heading out to avoid hunger pangs during the event. Many local shops may close temporarily for the celebration, making it difficult to find food afterward.

In addition to these preparations, safety should be a top priority. With large crowds expected, attendees are encouraged to limit the items they bring to reduce congestion and maintain public hygiene. Parents should also keep a close watch on their belongings to prevent theft, which can be a concern in crowded places.

On the day of the event, roads surrounding the parade route, including Le Duan, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Pasteur, and Pham Ngoc Thach, are likely to experience significant congestion, particularly during peak hours from 6:00 to 10:00 AM and 7:00 to 10:00 PM. To mitigate these issues, local authorities recommend utilizing public transportation options such as the metro or buses. The metro system has announced extended service hours, operating until 11:00 PM daily from April 25 to May 4, 2025, to accommodate the influx of visitors.

In addition to the parade, the city will host a fireworks display on the evening of April 26 from 9:30 PM to 9:40 PM at Saigon River Park in Thu Duc City. On April 30, fireworks will be launched from 30 locations, including two high-altitude sites and 28 low-altitude spots, providing a stunning visual treat for attendees.

As the celebration draws nearer, it is important for families to remain vigilant and prepared. In case of heat-related illnesses, such as heatstroke, parents should seek medical assistance immediately. Moving the child to a shaded area, removing excess clothing, and applying cool towels to their body can help alleviate symptoms while hydration is crucial. Parents should offer fluids slowly to prevent nausea.

Ultimately, the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South promises to be a memorable event for all. With proper planning and adherence to safety guidelines, families can enjoy the festivities while celebrating this historic occasion with pride.
