Historic 2340 Spins Highlight X Games 2025

Ogiwara and Tabanelli achieve unprecedented milestones, redefining extreme sports.

At the X Games 2025 held in Aspen, Colorado, history was made as Japanese snowboarder Hiroto Ogiwara landed the first-known 2340 spin during the men’s snowboard Big Air event. This incredible trick, consisting of rotating six and a half times before landing, captivated the audience and showcased the evolution of extreme sports. Ogiwara, just 19 years old, took off from the jump and immediately initiated his spin with his hands gripping the board.

The moment was electrifying; after executing the trick flawlessly, Ogiwara celebrated exuberantly, though he crashed briefly after the landing. Amid cheers from the crowd, he reflected, “I am the first in the world to do this. I’ve never been as happy as this. It was really the greatest moment. It felt as if I used every ounce of energy I had,” he shared with Olympics.com.

Despite facing challenges, including sustaining a minor forearm fracture during practice leading up to the event, Ogiwara displayed remarkable resilience and skill. His score of 97.33 awarded him the gold medal, placing nearly three points above fellow Japanese athlete Taiga Hasegawa, who took home the silver. New Zealand's Rocco Jamieson secured the bronze, finishing another three points behind.

Ogiwara’s remarkable feat was only the beginning of the historic moments at the X Games. The following day, history was once again on display as Italian skier Miro Tabanelli made waves by executing his own 2340 spin—this time, marking the first known occurrence of the trick within a skiing contest. Tabanelli's flawless performance not only garnered accolades but also gold medal honors, as he achieved the top score of 98.00.

“It was unreal to pull off something like this, and to win gold at the same time is incredible,” Tabanelli stated post-event, as reported by CNN.

Tabanelli’s achievement highlighted the increasing competitiveness within skiing, making it clear these athletes are pushing boundaries as Ogiwara did the day before. New Zealand's Luca Harrington and Austria's Matěj Švancer followed, obtaining silver and bronze respectively, rounding out the podium.

The 2025 X Games not only showcased breathtaking athleticism but also emphasized the ever-evolving nature of extreme sports. With Ogiwara and Tabanelli breaking new ground, fans witnessed firsthand how determination, innovation, and hard work lead to groundbreaking achievements. These feats may shift the perceptions of what is possible within their disciplines and inspire upcoming generations.

The X Games have always been about pushing limits, but this marks a moment where new heights are not just conceptual anymore—they are becoming reality.
