Hirving Lozano Bids Farewell to PSV With Dominant Victory Over Feyenoord
Mexican forward Hirving "Chucky" Lozano made his final appearance for PSV Eindhoven during their impressive 3-0 win against Feyenoord, before embarking on his new adventure with San Diego FC.
The match, held at the Philips Stadium, was not only significant for the outcome but also served as an emotional farewell for Lozano, who has been a pivotal player for PSV across two separate stints. Fans began chanting his name well before his late substitution, signaling the affection and respect he garnered during his time at the club. It was clear he had left his mark on both the team's success and its fanbase.
PSV started strong, taking control of the game early on. Noa Lang struck first, scoring the opener just 19 minutes in, followed by Luuk de Jong’s header shortly after. The two goals gave the Eindhoven team a comfortable lead before half-time. Malik Tillman added the third goal midway through the second half, effectively sealing the game. Lozano, who entered the field as a substitute for Ivan Perisic in the 90th minute, got to experience one last moment under the spotlight, albeit too late to impact the final score.
His final match with PSV marks the conclusion of his second stint with the club, where they celebrated their championship win last season. Lozano reflected on his time with PSV, noting, "I am happy about the new challenge, but it’s not easy to leave PSV and the Netherlands right now. I will definitely miss the club," as noted by De Telegraaf.
Lozano’s career at PSV has been marked by highlights, including two league titles. He initially joined PSV from Mexico's C.F. Pachuca and quickly became known as “Chucky” for his dynamic playing style. After spending two seasons with Eindhoven, he moved to Napoli, where he also achieved great success, including winning the Serie A title. He returned to PSV last year, but injuries hindered his contributions during this period.
Despite the struggles, Lozano expressed gratitude for his experiences, particularly with the team’s current caliber of players: "The level of play is really high. I enjoyed playing alongside my teammates and celebrating on the flatbed truck after winning titles," he reminisced during his farewell.
PSV’s commanding 3-0 victory left them ten points clear at the top of the Eredivisie, underscoring their dominance this season. The fans’ passion was palpable, as banners thanking Lozano filled the stands, with one reading, "Thank you, El Chucky," capturing the sentiment shared by many.
Though Lozano's departure brings bittersweet feelings, he is optimistic about his future. His move to San Diego FC marks his entry to Major League Soccer, where he hopes to continue playing at a high level closer to family. The emotional farewell punctuated by cheers from fans, serves as recognition of his contributions to the club, Indicating how much he will be missed. Lozano concluded, "I leave with good feelings because it was a very nice time. But I am also disappointed due to my injuries which limited my playing time. Still, I will cherish the memories I have made here at PSV."
