Hiroshi Nohara's Lunch Style E-Book Sale Kicks Off

The popular manga series announces half-price e-book sale and upcoming anime adaptation.

The beloved manga series "Hiroshi Nohara's Lunch Style," penned by Youichi Tsukahara, is currently on sale, offering volumes one through ten at nearly half price. Readers can purchase the entire set for 3,475 yen, down from the regular retail price of 6,600 yen, as part of this promotional offer which began on March 15, 2025. Notably, volume five is excluded from this discount.

This manga serves as an official spin-off of the iconic "Crayon Shin-chan" series originally created by Yoshito Usui. Unlike its original focus on the mischievous Shin-chan, the spotlight shifts to his father, Hiroshi Nohara, providing readers with intriguing glimpses of Hiroshi's lunchtime dilemmas and culinary adventures. The series captures the essence of Hiroshi's life as he navigates being a family man and salaryman, all whilst working with limited lunch money.

The first episode kicks off with traditional Japanese staples like katsu don and curry, but stretches to include gourmet offerings such as tuna bowls and kebab sandwiches. Each chapter introduces new menu items, highlighting Hiroshi's personal "lunch style" alongside detailed discussions about the meals. Fans will also recognize the iconic line, "I feel so tense coming to the theme park!" This humorous expression, featured in volume three, episode 24, entitled "Skewered Cutlet's Style," showcases Hiroshi's astonishment during his business trip to Osaka, where he experienced the vibrant atmosphere of Shinsekai.

But the excitement doesn't stop there. An anime adaptation of "Hiroshi Nohara's Lunch Style" is set to premiere on BS朝日 (BS Fuji) starting this October 2025, airing on Fridays at 11:00 PM. Speaking about the adaptation, voice actor Toshiyuki Morikawa confirmed he will reprise his role as Hiroshi, bringing continuity to both the manga and anime formats. The anime is directed by Nishi-yama, who has previously worked on projects like "Human Bug University" and "Secret Society Eagle Talon." DLE is producing the flash animation adaptation.

Regarding the adaptation, Tsukahara expressed immense joy when he first received the offer. "It felt like I was lifted to the heavens when I read the script and knew I was understood. Watching the final product made me even happier, and when Toshiyuki’s voice entered the mix, it was out of this world!" Tsukahara's relief and elation are palpable, emphasizing the high quality of the work.

Nishiyama, the director, offered insight during production meetings leading up to the anime's release, joking, "There was never a moment without someone's stomach rumbling. We were all fueled by the various stomach noises as we created this series!" Meanwhile, Morikawa, reflecting back on his role, noted how the amount of lines he had was quite excessive. He commented on the fun challenge, stating: "There were so many lines! I was burning so many calories recording all those lines, and the delicious-looking food on-screen made it even more challenging to keep my stomach quiet!"

The anime, featuring visually stunning scenes of Hiroshi enjoying his meals amid office crowds, promises to portray the beloved character’s often humorous challenges related to lunchtime choices. Fans are excited to finally see Hiroshi’s character development and unique "lunch style" come to life on screen.

Morikawa took this moment to invite fans to join him on this culinary adventure, saying, "To all the fans of Hiroshi Nohara and 'Crayon Shin-chan,' the wait is finally over! Let’s watch Hiroshi's lunch style together and maybe figure out what we can have for lunch tomorrow!" There’s certainly anticipation bubbling for both the manga sale and the anime adaptation as fans prepare for another delightful chapter featuring Hiroshi Nohara.
