Hexagon Expands Operations With New HQ In Shenzhen

Swedish tech group invests over $214 million to strengthen presence in Southeast Asia's competitive market

Swedish technology firm Hexagon AB is gearing up to establish its operations at a new headquarters located in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, by the end of 2025. This strategic move marks Hexagon's commitment to enhancing its presence and support across Southeast Asia.

Investing over 200 million euros (approximately $214.38 million), Hexagon is focused on creating not just a base of operations but also an "Industry 4.0" demonstration model. This ambitious project will include the launch of what is anticipated to be a global "lighthouse factory" and the development of an integral resource ecosystem catering to the entire industrial chain. Josh Weiss, president of Hexagon's manufacturing intelligence division, spoke about how this initiative aims to offer comprehensive support for clients throughout Southeast Asia and beyond.

Hexagon has laid the groundwork for its Shenzhen extension after successfully launching empowerment centers previously established in Shanghai and Qingdao, Shandong province. Executives at Hexagon believe forging partnerships with local firms and startups is key to adapting to the dynamic needs of China's industrial sector.

During the recent China International Import Expo held in Shanghai, Hexagon made headlines by showcasing its innovative “Smart Manufacturing” approach. This digital strategy facilitates seamless transitions from design to production, positioning Hexagon as a pivotal player supporting companies like Weichai Holding Group and Shanghai Tobacco Group to improve their quality management systems.

Hao Jian, Hexagon’s executive president for Greater China, emphasized the significance of accessibility. He stated the company's solutions are crafted to be affordable and user-friendly, particularly for those industries transitioning to digital processes. Explaining the real-world impacts of their technology, he noted successes with local organizations, citing examples of Shandong’s Weichai and Shanghai Tobacco’s transitions through digital quality management systems offered by Hexagon.

Hexagon, renowned for its advanced manufacturing and metrology solutions, currently operates across 50 countries and regions. Impressively, through its strategic approach, Hexagon has transitioned its supply chain within China, manufacturing approximately 90 percent of its coordinate measuring machines domestically, down from 100 percent reliance on imports.

Shenzhen, often called the “Silicon Valley of China,” is well known for its vibrant tech ecosystem and skilled workforce, making it the ideal location for Hexagon as it strives to bolster its international footprint. This scaling presence is expected to synergize with the region's innovation and tech-driven economic growth.

Since its inception, Hexagon has embraced the mantra of collaboration; building on this philosophy could lead to significant advancements not only for the company but also for local industries. The company’s commitment to innovative, digital solutions reflects broader trends seen throughout China, where digital transformation is rapidly redefining traditional sectors.

Hexagon’s move is part of its broader strategy to capitalize on opportunities within China’s burgeoning market. With this expansion, Hexagon not only plans to solidify its existing client relationships but also aims to cultivate new partnerships within the region. The company’s emphasis on adaptability and local collaboration is set to play a decisive role as it positions itself to navigate the fast-evolving demands of the Chinese market.

Following the recent exhibitions and bold announcements at significant events like the CIIE, the tech world is watching closely as Hexagon prepares to make its mark. This investment signals not only Hexagon's confidence in China's economic potential but also its alignment with global advancements toward smarter and more efficient manufacturing solutions.

With significant investments and initiatives planned, Hexagon's Shenzhen operations are sure to bring exciting developments. This marks the beginning of what could be transformative changes for industries across Southeast Asia through innovative practices and collaborative approaches.
