Heavy snow has significantly disrupted transportation networks across Japan's Shikoku region, prompting authorities to announce potential road closures. According to the Shikoku Regional Development Bureau, the region is expected to experience heavy snowfall, particularly in mountainous areas, leading to hazardous conditions for travelers.

Forecasts predict heavy snow to fall until noon on February 8, 2025, with the seriousness of the situation warranting warnings for widespread closures on major thoroughfares. By February 7, officials indicated several key areas might be affected, advising travelers to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel.

The Bureau listed specific routes with high chances of being closed due to the weather. These include:

  • National Route 32, between Zaidacho, Mitoyo City, to Ikeda Town, Tokushima Prefecture.
  • National Route 32, between Ikeda Town, Tokushima Prefecture, and Nishidoi, Otoyo Town, Kochi Prefecture.
  • National Route 192, from Shimonosho, Shikokuchuo City, Ehime Prefecture, to Ikeda Town, Tokushima Prefecture.

From 6 PM on the same day, concerns grew for segments of the Matsuyama Expressway and numerous local routes:

  • Matsuyama Expressway, from Ozu IC to Ozu Kitajiro IC.
  • National Route 56, between Takakushi, Uwajima City, and Kitajiro, Ozu City.
  • Matsuyama Expressway, from Seiyo Uwajima IC to Tsushima Iwamatsu IC.

Authorities noted these closures could change based on weather and traffic conditions, with officials continuously monitoring snowfall and road safety.
