Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued For Tamil Nadu Districts

Weather authorities anticipate light to moderate rain with thunderstorms across several regions this week.

Tamil Nadu is bracing for heavy rainfall as the state’s Weather Department has issued warnings for multiple districts on March 1, 2025. The forecast, influenced by variations of wind speeds from the east, predicts light to moderate rain with thunderstorms across several areas.

According to the Chennai Weather Department, districts including Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and others could see significant rainfall. "Due to variations of wind speeds from the east, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms could occur," the authority stated, highlighting the serious weather situation.

The most affected areas, as reported, include Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and the others, with predictions of heavy rainfall expected. The Weather Bureau remarked, "Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi are expected to receive heavy rainfall," indicating areas where the impact could be substantial.

Rainfall measurements over the past 24 hours have already indicated notable precipitation, with reports showing rainfall amounts reaching up to 5 cm at certain locations. This early onset of rain has raised concerns among residents as the region gears up for fluctuated weather patterns over the next few days.

Specifically, forecasts suggest similar conditions on March 2, when light to moderate rains are expected across southern Tamil Nadu and select areas of northern Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal. The Weather Department also warned of thunderstorms, keeping the public informed about potential hazards of the rain.

On March 3, light to moderate rain is expected to continue, especially across southern Tamil Nadu. The central Tamil Nadu regions may face dryness shortly after this period, with predictions of considerably dry weather prevailing from March 4 to 6 across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The current temperatures reflect some variance from seasonal averages, with maximums nearing 33° Celsius and minimums hovering around 24-25° Celsius. The widespread conditions across coastal areas are significant as they not only impact daily life but also the fishing community.

Fishermen have been urged not to venture out to sea during this time. The Chennai Weather Authority has reported increased wind speeds reaching between 35 to 45 kilometers per hour, with gusts exceeding 55 kilometers per hour. This creates hazardous conditions for maritime activities, and the public has been advised to heed these warnings to avoid any untoward incidents.

Efforts by the Tamil Nadu Weather Department to keep the public informed continue as they track the weather's evolution closely. Warnings and advisories have been issued as necessary to encourage safety and preparedness among residents and the fishing community alike.

Looking forward, the region remains on alert as conditions may provide intervals of rain and fluctuated winds, especially as the transition from heavy rains to dryer spells takes place. The department's updates and forecasts are expected to remain consistent as they provide timely notice to those affected by the inclement weather.

With numerous districts preparing for the impending rain and fluctuated temperatures, local authorities are encouraging citizens to remain vigilant and informed. The extreme weather holds substantial importance not only for daily activities but also for safety and planning efforts across Tamil Nadu.
