Heavy Rain Affects Traffic Conditions Across Iran's Major Provinces

Over 8 million travelers anticipated to take to the roads as the year 1403 comes to a close amid numerous accidents and weather alerts.

As the year 1403 comes to a close, the traffic situation across Iran has become quite precarious due to unexpected heavy rainfall impacting several provinces. Colonel Siavash Mohibi, the Deputy of the Police Traffic Force (راهور فراجا), addressed this critical issue on March 20, 2025, as travelers flock to popular destinations during the New Year holiday.

According to Colonel Mohibi, numerous provinces, including آذربایجان شرقی, آذربایجان غربی, اردبیل, گیلان, مازندران, کردستان, زنجان, قزوین, البرز, تهران, لرستان, چهارمحال و بختیاری, مرکزی, and خوزستان, are experiencing adverse weather conditions due to incessant rain, significantly affecting traffic flow.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution on rainy routes, as Colonel Mohibi warned of substantial traffic congestion currently observed in areas such as the Karaj-Chalous route, particularly from پل زنگوله to سیاه بیشه in a south-to-north direction. Furthermore, heavy traffic continues to plague the Tehran-Shomal Freeway from تونل البرز to the Azadراه entrance, and complications on the Haraz route in the محدوده امامزاده هاشم area have also been reported.

As travelers navigate these challenging conditions, the police have requested that they remain vigilant and adhere to traffic updates and announcements from the authorities. Colonel Mohibi emphasized, "Drivers need to exercise caution on rainy routes," highlighting the road safety measures being reinforced during this busy period.

The holiday travel period has also raised concerns about the safety of motorists. Recent data indicates that over 8 million passengers traveled within the duration from the 25th to the 28th of Esfand, coinciding with a noticeable rise in road incidents. The statistics reveal an alarming count of 13,195 accidents, tragically resulting in 87 fatalities and 3,075 injuries.

Based on this concerning trend, authorities are especially focused on promoting road safety during these crucial travel days. Colonel Mohibi further advised, "It's advised to avoid unnecessary trips given the current weather and traffic conditions." In some areas, such as the Pounel-Khalkhal road, heavy rains have led to complete blockage, causing significant travel delays for many.

The Iranian police have taken to social media and news platforms, urging individuals to stay informed regarding the current road conditions. With adverse weather contributing to hazardous driving scenarios, their advice is timely and necessary. As travelers plan their last-minute trips, they are encouraged to consider alternatives and adjust their routes based on real-time updates to avoid dangerous situations.

As millions hit the road during this holiday season, the potential for accidents remains a grave concern for authorities. Officers remain on high alert to manage traffic flow and respond to emergencies across the affected regions. The overall aim is to balance safety with the joy of the new year celebrations, ensuring that families can reach their destinations without incident.

The coming days will be critical as travelers navigate popular routes under challenging conditions. Some areas are expected to remain particularly troublesome, with continuous monitoring from traffic authorities being vital for public safety. As people commemorate the close of the year and the arrival of the new one, remembering these precautions might just contribute to making safer journeys possible.
