Hasan Ali Shines In PSL 10 Aiming For National Comeback

Impressive performances boost hopes for Hasan Ali and Sahibzada Farhan's return to the T20I side

In the world of cricket, comebacks are often the most riveting stories, and this season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is no exception. Hasan Ali, the 30-year-old fast bowler for Karachi Kings, is making headlines with his exceptional performance in PSL 10, where he has emerged as a key player. With 10 wickets in just four matches, Hasan is currently the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, all while setting his sights on a return to the national team.

Having not played international cricket since January 2024, Hasan was dropped from all formats as Pakistan opted to prioritize younger talents like Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. However, Hasan's determination to reclaim his spot is evident. In an exclusive interview with Geo Super, he expressed, "I want to represent Pakistan again — not just to be in the team, but to contribute to wins. I aim to be the best bowler of the tournament, but more importantly, I want to help Karachi Kings lift the trophy." His ambition is not just personal; he is ready to accept any leadership role if called upon, hinting at a future captaincy for the Kings.

Hasan's recent performances have not only impressed fans but have also caught the attention of selectors. His record-breaking achievement in PSL history, where he surpassed Wahab Riaz's long-standing record of 113 wickets, has further solidified his status. Now boasting 116 wickets in just 85 matches, Hasan's journey is a testament to his skill and resilience. In a standout match against Quetta Gladiators, he took 3 wickets for 27 runs, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.

Salman Ali Agha, the captain of Pakistan's limited-overs team, has noted the impressive starts that both Hasan Ali and Sahibzada Farhan have made in PSL 2025. Farhan, who plays for Islamabad United, has also made waves with his performance, scoring 214 runs in four matches, including a century and a half-century. Agha remarked, "I’m keeping a close eye on the form and fitness of players who may go on to represent Pakistan or whom I may have to lead one day. The way Hasan is bowling and the form Farhan is showing — they will definitely be on the radar."

Hasan's resurgence can be attributed to his hard work at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where he made significant technical adjustments to his bowling. "I worked really hard at the NCA to overcome the shortcomings in my bowling. I made technical adjustments and re-modified a few things, which are now yielding results — first in the National T20 and now in the Pakistan Super League (PSL)," he shared. His commitment to improvement has paid off, as he is not only performing well but also gaining confidence in his abilities.

Reflecting on his journey, Hasan acknowledged the importance of domestic cricket in his career. "Even when I was dropped, I went back to domestic cricket, performed well, and earned my place back. That’s always the path — performance is the only way back," he explained. His experiences have shaped him into a more mature player, ready to take on responsibilities and lead when necessary. "With time, a person changes. Half of my career has passed, and now that I’m a senior player, I should carry myself accordingly," he stated.

Meanwhile, Sahibzada Farhan is also making a case for himself in the national side. After an outstanding performance in the National T20 Cup, where he scored 605 runs in seven innings, including three centuries and two half-centuries, he has set his sights on securing a permanent place in the national team. "My aim is not just to play a couple of matches and make a comeback. Whenever I return to the national team, I want to make a permanent spot for myself and play for a long period," he affirmed.

Farhan's confidence is palpable as he aims to continue his scoring spree in the PSL. He has expressed his desire to break records, stating, "My aim is to score at least one or two more centuries this PSL so I can break the record for the most centuries in a year." His determination reflects the competitive spirit that is essential for players looking to make their mark on the international stage.

As the PSL 2025 unfolds, both Hasan Ali and Sahibzada Farhan are proving that they are not just players of the league but potential stars for the national team. With Pakistan's recent struggles on the international front, including a disappointing exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy and series losses to New Zealand, the selectors will be keen to see which players can rise to the occasion.

Pakistan's next challenge comes in the form of a three-match T20I series against the West Indies, starting on July 31. As the tournament progresses, the performances in PSL will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the squad for upcoming international fixtures. For Hasan and Farhan, the stakes couldn't be higher as they aim to secure their places in the national lineup.

With the PSL providing a platform for these players to showcase their talents, the excitement continues to build. Fans are eager to see if Hasan Ali can maintain his form and help Karachi Kings clinch the trophy, while also eyeing a return to the national side. The future looks promising for both players, and as they strive for excellence, they embody the spirit of resilience and determination that defines cricket.
