Hailee Steinfeld has raised some alarm bells for fans wanting to know more about Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The actress, known for voicing Gwen Stacy, is currently busy with several projects, including Michael B. Jordan’s vampire flick Sinners, Netflix’s animated series Arcane, and a possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. As for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the third film in Sony’s Spider-Verse trilogy, it has been announced with a release date of June 4, 2027. That’s more than two years away, and a lot can happen in that time.
In a recent interview with MTV, Steinfeld was questioned about the long wait for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. “Listen, if it were up to me, I would not make us wait that long,” she said. When asked if she has recorded any voice lines yet, Steinfeld responded with a hesitant, “Yeah… we’re well into that thing.” She even added that the interviewer, Josh Horowitz, knows just as much as she does about the upcoming film, which isn’t necessarily a good sign. “Listen, you’ve got to trust the process,” she continued. “There’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that. You put it in their hands, and you’re going to end up with something masterful, so just gotta go with it.”
The people she referred to are the writers and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who have been instrumental in shaping the Spider-Verse films. Originally, Sony Pictures Animation pushed back the release date of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse from March 2024 to June 2027, following allegations of poor working conditions for the artists and animators involved. While rumors about those conditions have quieted, the focus now shifts to ensuring that the film meets its 2027 release date.
Lord and Miller told ComicBook in 2023 that their goal is to make the best Spider-Verse movie possible. “I would say that just like we’re going to take the time necessary to make Beyond the Spider-Verse great,” Lord stated, with Miller adding, “And we won’t back into a release date that doesn’t fit.”
There have also been discussions about spinning Steinfeld’s Spider-Woman off into her own animated movie. Producer Amy Pascal mentioned during the LA premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse that “You’ll see all of it. It’s all happening.” Producer Avi Arad echoed this sentiment, stating that a Spider-Woman animated movie will happen “sooner than you expect. I cannot tell you yet, but it’s coming.”
The first look at Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was unveiled during Sony’s presentation at CinemaCon in March 2025. The images featured Miles Morales facing off against Earth-42’s Miles G. Morales, who is known as the Prowler on his Earth. This version of Miles has already lost his father and turned to a life of crime, mirroring the path of his Uncle Aaron.
The previous film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, concluded with Gwen Stacy assembling a team of Spider heroes from across the multiverse to rescue Miles Morales, who is stranded on Earth-42. The stakes are high as Miles must return home in time to save his father from being murdered by The Spot.
In addition to her work on the Spider-Verse franchise, Steinfeld is currently promoting her new film, Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan. The actress has embraced a more provocative role in this horror film, which marks a departure from her previous work. In a newsletter to her fans, Steinfeld expressed her excitement about the role, stating, “This role is far removed from what I’ve done, but that’s part of what drew me to it! I feel like I’m stepping into my own more and more as I get older, and this role mirrors that.”
She also revealed that she took the role without hesitation, saying, “The minute I heard Ryan Coogler, I was in. Then I read his script and was like, ‘Holy s—, this feels like a massive undertaking.’ The story is so complex and layered.”
As fans eagerly await Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Steinfeld's comments have sparked a mix of excitement and concern. The extended wait for the film raises questions about what the delay means for the franchise and the creative process behind it.
Ultimately, the anticipation surrounding Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse continues to grow, especially with Steinfeld’s involvement and the promise of a rich, multi-layered narrative. As the film progresses through production, fans can only hope that the wait will be worth it.
