GWM Tank 300 Diesel Launches With Enhanced Specifications

The addition of a turbo diesel option brings improved payload and towing capabilities to GWM's popular SUV model.

The automotive landscape in Australia is set to gain a significant new contender as GWM (Great Wall Motors) introduces the 2025 GWM Tank 300 diesel variant. This addition to their popular SUV lineup is aimed particularly at those who require enhanced towing capabilities and payload. The Tank 300 is recognized for its rugged build which makes it a formidable competitor against veterans in the SUV segment like the Jeep Wrangler.

Available now in dealerships, the 2025 GWM Tank 300 diesel features a robust 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine, producing an impressive 135kW of power and 480Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission that enhances driver control and fuel efficiency. The starting price for the Tank 300 diesel is set at $47,990 drive-away, which interestingly matches the price of the petrol model, although the latter is currently seeing a promotional discount priced at $45,990 until March 31, 2025.

In terms of performance, the petrol version of the Tank 300 runs on a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, capable of delivering 162kW and 380Nm. When it comes to fuel consumption, it claims 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres in contrast to the economical 7.8L/100km for the new diesel variant. The hybrid variant, which leverages a combination of the same 2.0-litre petrol engine along with an electric motor, delivers a breathtaking power output of 255kW and 648Nm. The hybrid is positioned at a price of $55,990 drive-away in Lux trim, which can be reduced to $50,990 during special promotional offers, making it the most expensive among the three options.

Key features distinguishing the diesel variant include a significantly higher payload capacity of 600kg, an improvement over the petrol’s 397kg and hybrid's 420kg. Moreover, the towing capacity of the diesel variant is rated at 3000kg, a notable increase from the 2500kg offered by both the petrol and hybrid versions. These capabilities make the GWM Tank 300 diesel a highly practical choice for drivers looking to haul heavier loads.

For buyers interested in the different configurations, the 2025 GWM Tank 300 is offered in two trim levels: Lux and Ultra. The Lux trim comes equipped with standard features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a nine-speaker sound system, and a range of safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and seven airbags among others. However, the Ultra trim enhances the experience further, featuring Luxury touches such as a heated steering wheel, Nappa leather upholstery, and memory settings for the driver’s seat, which greatly add to comfort and luxury.

As expected, with such high specifications, buyers can expect a range of advanced technological features across all trims. These include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a digital radio, satellite navigation, and telematics applications support, ensuring on-the-go connectivity is not compromised for drivers.

Given the competitive pricing and comprehensive features, the introduction of the 2025 GWM Tank 300 diesel is a strategic move for GWM aimed at expanding their market presence in the growing SUV segment. With the Tank 300 now available alongside its petrol and hybrid counterparts, consumers will have a more varied option that suits diverse demands, from off-road adventures to city driving.

In summary, GWM's Tank 300 series steps up the game with the inclusion of a diesel variant—catered towards utility and efficiency, making it appealing to a wide range of consumers. The tank's robust capabilities ensure that it not only holds its ground in performance but also does so at a competitive price point, appealing to those interested in both functionality and luxury.
