Gurugram Fashion Tour Honors Rohit Bal's Legacy

A heartfelt tribute during the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2025 celebrated the influential designer's impact on Indian fashion.

Gurugram witnessed a heartfelt tribute to the late fashion maestro Rohit Bal during the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2025, where the fashion industry came together to honor his remarkable career and artistic contributions. The event was not merely a fashion show; it was a celebration of Bal's extraordinary legacy, showcasing the transformational impact he has had on Indian couture.

With over 100 icons from Bollywood and the fashion world, including Sonam Kapoor, JJ Valaya, and Madhur Bhandarkar, the tribute melted the layers of commercialism to reveal the artistry at its core. Bal, who passed away on November 1, 2024, was revered not just as a designer but as a storyteller and revolutionary within the realms of Indian fashion.

The evening was curated with elegance, and from the onset, it became apparent this was no ordinary runway event. A multi-sensory experience enveloped attendees, with projected visuals of Bal's most iconic creations illuminating the venue, complemented by motifs reflecting his signature designs crafted by set designer Sumant Jayakrishnan. Live performances enriched the atmosphere, where musicians Vibha Saraf and Deveshi Sahgal performed, echoing emotional notes from Bal's storied career.

Perhaps the most poignant moment of the night occurred when Sonam Kapoor, celebrated as Bal’s eternal muse, graced the runway. Dressed in a stunning white ensemble beneath an intricately embellished ivory jacket, Kapoor greeted the audience with folded hands and broke down, reflecting the deep emotional resonance of the evening. “Rohit Bal is not just a designer. He is a storyteller, an artist, and a visionary,” she stated, emphasizing the significance of her participation. “Being part of this tribute was not just an honor, it was a privilege.”

Bal’s contributions to Indian fashion were immense; he seamlessly wove together heritage and modernity, showcasing craftsmanship inspired by Kashmiri embroidery and Mughal architecture. His works have gained immense recognition on global platforms such as Paris Fashion Week, allowing Indian craftsmanship to shine brightly on international runways.

Fashion historian Hamish Bowles once remarked on Bal's ability to create worlds on the runway, stating, “Rohit Bal doesn’t just design, he creates entire worlds on the runway.” His productions were legendary for merging fashion with drama and storytelling, and this tribute captured the very essence of what made Bal's work so impactful.

The Blenders Pride Fashion Tour has now established itself as India's premier platform for fashion, culture, and artistic innovation. According to Kartik Mohindra, CMO of Pernod Ricard India, “This tribute to Rohit Bal was one for the ages. It reflected our long-standing commitment to spotlighting the iconic voices shaping Indian fashion.” Following this tribute, the tour is set to continue to Mumbai, with plans for additional showcases highlighting various designers and actors.

While the event celebrated Bal's legacy, it is also enshrouded by the controversy surrounding his will. Following his death, disputes arose between his close friend Lalit Tehlan and Bal’s family, with Sunil Sethi, the Chairman of the Fashion Design Council of India, appointed as the executor. Sethi expressed surprise at the subject being brought up, stating, “Even though we shared a strong bond, this topic was never part of our conversation. ... I’m awaiting more information.”
This aspect of Bal's life adds complexity to the love and admiration the fashion community has for him during this tribute.

Through heartfelt remembrances, vibrant displays of Bal’s artistry, and reflections on his influence, the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2025 served as both a celebration of life and art. The tribute not only honored Rohit Bal's achievements but reinforced the indelible mark he leaves on the fabric of Indian fashion.
