Members of the 2nd Monifieth Guide Unit recently participated in a special screening of the latest Disney film, Moana 2, at Odeon cinemas, joining over 50,000 Girlguiding members across the UK for this exclusive event. The screening celebrates not just the film but also the spirit of adventure and friendship shared within the Girlguiding community.
After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana embarks on a thrilling new adventure alongside Maui and a new crew, venturing to the far seas of Oceania. Together, they navigate dangerous waters, engaging the imagination with a storyline much like the one guiding members experienced during their outing. Anna Hannen Thomas, leader for the 2nd Monifieth Guides, expressed her excitement, saying, “We had such a fab time taking the Guides to Moana 2. It’s great for the girls to feel part of something bigger than just their Guide unit, and it’s cool seeing so many Guides, Rainbows, Brownies, and Rangers in one place!”
The trip to the movies was not just about watching the film—it was about building connections. Hannen Thomas emphasized the importance of these gatherings: “It’s also nice for me as leader to see other volunteers I know and build connections across the county.” The day provided cherished memories, fostering friendships and inspiring young girls aged 4 to 18.
For the past seven years, Girlguiding and Odeon cinemas have collaborated to create affordable opportunities for girls to enjoy cinema outings beyond their regular meetings. Each screening is more than just entertainment; it's part of the organization's mission to enrich the lives of its members through unique experiences. Said Kerry Burkes, sales executive at Odeon, “At Odeon, we are thrilled to continue our partnership with Girlguiding, providing unique and exciting experiences for girls across the country. We are delighted the girls had such fun watching Moana 2.”
The partnership supports exclusive screenings of the latest family-friendly films, making them accessible at cinemas nationwide. It’s these kinds of fun activities organized by the Girlguiding community, rooted deeply within shared values of friendship and adventure, which not only enrich the lives of the girls but also highlight the importance of teamwork and community service.
Looking forward, it is evident the excitement for Moana 2 continues. The film is set to return to The El Capitan Theatre for another limited engagement from January 10th to February 2nd, 2025. During this time, guests will have the chance to take pictures with stunning Moana and Maui statue photo ops and enjoy a themed curtain show before each screening.
The anticipated return reaffirms the film's impact and the growing support around the Disney franchise. Fans of Moana will once again have the chance to immerse themselves in the world of Oceania, where stories of brave journeys and friendship continue to inspire audiences of all ages.
Events like the special screenings and upcoming theatre engagements open avenues for community engagement and reinforce the nurturing spirit of Girlguiding. For girls and leaders alike, experiences like these are more than special days out; they are fun-filled adventures contributing to the overall development and enrichment offered by their guiding experience.
