Grosseto Hospital Receives New Audiometry Equipment For Pediatric Care

Recent donation enhances local healthcare services, providing families with access to important auditory evaluations.

Grosseto's Misericordia Hospital has recently enhanced its pediatric care capabilities with the donation of new audiometry equipment, significantly improving the ability to conduct hearing tests for infants and young children.

The donation was made possible by Fondazione Cr Firenze, which aims to support local healthcare initiatives. This new equipment will allow families to access necessary hearing tests locally, avoiding long travel to distant medical facilities.

Dr. Simone Boccuzzi, the Director of the Otorhinolaryngology department, highlighted the importance of audiometry, stating, “Audiometry is a fundamental exam to complete the diagnostic process for children with hearing problems identified during neonatal screening.” This statement emphasizes the significance of early detection and intervention for auditory issues.

Carlo Vellutini, a board member of Fondazione Cr Firenze, expressed his satisfaction with the donation, saying, “We are pleased to contribute so many children and families can benefit from this important equipment at Misericordia Hospital.” His words reflect the foundation's commitment to improving the quality of life and health of the local community.

The implementation of this new audiometry tool marks the first of its kind for Misericordia Hospital. Mariano Genovese, the Technical Health Director, explained, “This tool is new for Misericordia Hospital; it allows us to diagnose children aged three to five years to intervene on their hearing capabilities, which are fundamental for the acquisition and development of language.”

The hospital is set to manage these diagnostic services through its experienced technical staff, ensuring families can book appointments for their children to receive thorough auditory evaluations. This process aims to promote early assistance for children with potential hearing impairments.

Dr. Michele Dentamaro, who leads the health direction at ASL Toscana Sud Est, finished with heartfelt gratitude toward the foundation, stating, “We express our sincere gratitude to the Fondazione Cr Firenze for their support and commitment to the health and well-being of young people.”

This donation not only embodies the collaborative effort of local organizations to uplift community health services but also reinforces the importance of pediatric care accessibility, offering greater resources to support families within the region.
