Grêmio Strategizes For 2025 Player Recruitment

Ahead of the next season, Grêmio actively targets key positions to strengthen its squad.

Grêmio Football Club is making strides to fortify its roster for the 2025 season, aiming to maintain competitiveness on both national and international fronts. Even before confirming the identity of their new head coach, the club has pinpointed player positions it deems necessary to fill.

A primary focus lies on reinforcing two positions: one striker and one midfielder. Currently, negotiations for the coaching position are at play, but the main target appears to be Argentine Gustavo Quinteros, who is currently leading Vélez Sarsfield, Argentina. Early signals suggest Quinteros is inclined to take on the challenge, which aligns with Grêmio’s broader strategy to swiftly secure new talent as part of their planning for the upcoming year.

Among the prime players being evaluated is Tadeo Allende, a 25-year-old forward currently playing for Celta de Vigo, Spain. Allende caught the club’s attention following his standout performance last year with Godoy Cruz, where he netted 10 goals through 38 appearances. Despite his promising track record, Allende has found limited playtime this season with Celta, making just three appearances and scoring twice—a situation Grêmio hopes to capitalize on.

Reports indicate Allende has already sought insights about Grêmio’s plans, signaling his interest and potentially laying the groundwork for future discussions. His versatility as a forward, particularly his preference for playing on the right flank, is a strategic fit for Grêmio’s tactical needs, especially following the release of former coach Renato Gaúcho.

To round out their recruitment efforts, Grêmio is also exploring the addition of Vinicius Zanocelo, currently on loan to Estoril from Santos, Brazil. This midfielder has been instrumental during his loan tenure, yet Estoril wishes to extend his loan until mid-2025 rather than execute the purchase option stipulated within their agreement. The progressive shift of Zanocelo to a more defensive role aligns perfectly with Grêmio's objectives to strengthen their midfield depth.

While Grêmio prepares to relaunch training on January 8, 2025, they are confidently positioning themselves to initiate substantive signings upon the appointment of Quinteros. The club is fostering discussions with both players, attempting to secure commitments prior to the conclusion of the current football season. Securing these two players would not only fill the immediate gaps within the team but also serve to set the foundation for a competitive roster heading back onto the pitch.

Overall, Grêmio’s forward-thinking recruitment strategy reflects their commitment to remaining relevant within Brazilian football and beyond, regardless of their coaching uncertainties. The initiation of discussions with key players is just the first step of many intended to solidify their positioning for the upcoming season.
