Greifswalder FC And Chemie Leipzig Battle To Scoreless Draw

Both teams earn a point in a hard-fought match with missed opportunities on both sides.

In a tightly contested match in the Regionalliga Nordost, Greifswalder FC and BSG Chemie Leipzig battled to a 0-0 draw on March 26, 2025. The game, which took place at Greifswald's home ground, saw both teams struggle to convert opportunities into goals, resulting in a stalemate that left both sides with a point.

The match began with a delay of 15 minutes due to late arrivals of some Chemie Leipzig fans, but once the whistle blew, it was clear that both teams were eager to secure a positive result. Chemie Leipzig, under the guidance of interim coach David Bergner, entered the match without three key players: top scorer Stanley Ratifo, who was returning from international duty with the Mozambique national team, as well as suspended players Julian Weigel and Cemal Kaymaz.

From the outset, Chemie Leipzig took the initiative, pressing high and creating several chances. Luca Marino had the first opportunity just five minutes into the game, but his shot was saved by Greifswald's goalkeeper Jakub Jakubov. Elias Oke followed up with another chance in the seventh minute, but again, Jakubov was equal to the task.

As the first half progressed, Chemie's dominance continued, with Terry Asare's shot being blocked in the 39th minute. Just before halftime, Oke came close to breaking the deadlock, but his shot sailed just over the crossbar in the 44th minute, leaving the teams tied at 0-0 as they headed into the locker rooms.

After the break, the game saw a shift in momentum. Greifswald began to find their rhythm, with notable attempts from Lukas Griebsch in the 69th minute and Elias Kratzer in the 83rd minute, both of which narrowly missed the target. Despite their efforts, Greifswald could not find a way past the resolute Chemie defense.

Throughout the match, over 700 passionate Chemie Leipzig fans were present, supporting their team vocally. The atmosphere was electric, but the lack of goals left many feeling disappointed. The final whistle confirmed the 0-0 draw, a result that reflected the hard-fought nature of the contest.

David Bergner, the interim coach for Chemie Leipzig, was pleased with his team's performance, stating, "We played an engaging, courageous away game today. After the derby, we rightly had to take criticism and wanted to make amends - and we succeeded. Greifswald has a lot of quality, but we performed bravely; we could even have taken the lead. In the second half, we couldn't quite maintain the pace and had to tremble a bit. It's a well-deserved point that we're happy to take with us."

On the other hand, Greifswald's coach Markus Zschiesche acknowledged the challenges of the match, saying, "It was a tough game. Both teams had to deal with the demands of the English week. We should have exploited the spaces better and couldn't replicate the performance from the Hansa game. In the first half, Chemie had a few chances, while we had none. In the second half, we wanted to show more quality on the ball and had chances. Both teams fought passionately. More wasn't possible for us today. But it also takes a good opponent, and they played well today."

With this result, Chemie Leipzig remains in 13th place in the league standings with 27 points, while Greifswald sits comfortably in 7th place with 40 points. Looking ahead, Chemie Leipzig will face VSG Altglienicke on March 30, while Greifswald is set to travel to Chemnitz on March 29.

The match showcased the competitive spirit of the Regionalliga Nordost, with both teams demonstrating their resilience and determination. As the season progresses, each point becomes crucial as they fight for favorable positions in the league.
