Governor Rocha Revives Direct Dialogue With Mazatlán Business Leaders

First such meeting in over ten years aims to boost regional development initiatives and security measures.

On January 31, 2025, Governor Rubén Rocha Moya of Sinaloa held a historic meeting with local business leaders from the Intercamaral of Mazatlán, marking the first time such dialogue had occurred in over a decade. This significant encounter aimed to strengthen collaboration between the state government and the business sector, focusing on initiatives to spur regional development.

During the gathering, attended by prominent figures including Sergio Rojas Velarde, president of Canacintra, and José Ramón Manguart Sánchez, president of the Hotels and Motels Association, key topics such as urban mobility and the need for new road developments were discussed. The leaders exchanged ideas on addressing various challenges facing the community, such as flooding risks and enhancing security measures.

One pressing subject was the security plan for the upcoming Mazatlán Carnival, one of the region's most famed annual events. Governor Rocha emphasized the operation's comprehensive nature, stating, "We have 1,600 active personnel and will add 3,000 more for the Carnival operation. There will be security presence on all main routes to guarantee the safety of locals and visitors." This strategy aims to provide reassurance to both residents and tourists during the Carnival festivities, which attract large crowds annually.

The governor and attendees also discussed the reactivation of security checkpoints managed jointly with the business sector, reinforcing public safety measures across the city. The conversation was characterized by constructive input from various stakeholders, underscoring the importance of cohesive action to support Mazatlán's growth.

“This type of meeting strengthens the vision of development for Mazatlán. Over the past three years, the port has experienced growth and investment, and now it’s time to continue advancing strategic projects benefiting everyone,” explained Ricardo Valverde Cárdenas, the Secretary of Economy. His remarks highlighted the significance of such dialogues as pivotal for aligning the government's strategic objectives with the needs of the local businesses.

Also present were key representatives from various sectors, including Estrella Palacios Domínguez, the mayor of Mazatlán, and Mireya Sosa Osuna, the Secretary of Tourism, illustrating the collaborative effort across governmental and economic lines to bolster local initiatives.

Overall, Rocha’s meeting with the business leaders signifies a renewed commitment from the state government to work closely with the business community—a move anticipated to yield substantial benefits for the economic future of Mazatlán and the surrounding areas.

This proactive dialogue is expected to pave the way for new projects and collaborations aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the region. With continued partnership between leaders of business and government, Mazatlán may well be poised for even greater economic opportunities and longer-term growth.
