Gotzon Mantuliz Wins El Desafío With Generous Gesture

The Basque contestant donates his prize to charity, leaving a lasting impact.

Gotzon Mantuliz has emerged as the champion of the fifth edition of El Desafío, the popular competition show on Antena 3, after a thrilling final aired on the night of March 28, 2025. Mantuliz, a content creator from the Basque Country, not only won the title but also made history with a remarkable gesture of generosity that left audiences and participants alike in awe.

Throughout the twelve weeks of the competition, Mantuliz consistently showcased his skills, leading the rankings from the very beginning. His unwavering determination and ability to conquer each challenge set him apart from his competitors, which included notable figures like Victoria de Marichalar, Susi Caramelo, and Lola Lolita.

In a surprising twist during the final, after receiving a check for 30,000 euros intended for charity, Mantuliz chose to hand over the decision of which NGO to support to the show's host, Roberto Leal. "I wanted to think of someone who has been present at every gala and has never been able to win one. That person is you, Roberto," he explained, visibly emotional.

Leal, taken aback by the gesture, decided to donate the prize to Unoentrecienmil, a foundation dedicated to fighting childhood leukemia, with which he has been actively involved for many years. "I love you all, thank you so much for this, Gotzon, and for everything you have given us each time," said Leal, clearly moved by Mantuliz's selflessness.

From the outset, Mantuliz demonstrated exceptional talent and perseverance. His debut performance featured an acrobatic routine that immediately placed him at the top of the leaderboard. Over the course of the competition, he faced numerous physically demanding and technically challenging tasks, earning the respect of the judges and affection from the audience.

Despite his previous experience as a winner of El Conquistador at just 19 years old, Mantuliz entered El Desafío as one of the least known contestants. This anonymity, however, worked to his advantage, allowing him to compete without the pressure that often comes with being in the spotlight. His approach to the competition was marked by a healthy sense of competitiveness, which endeared him to both his fellow contestants and viewers.

In the final showdown, Mantuliz faced off against Marichalar, Caramelo, and Lolita, all of whom delivered impressive performances. Marichalar, in particular, made history as the first woman to complete certain high-risk challenges, including intentionally setting herself on fire and mastering the 360-degree swing.

Marichalar's bravery and determination earned her a commendable second place, marking a significant milestone in her television career. "It takes a lot of courage to risk your first television experience on a show like El Desafío, but I knew I was in good hands here," she said, reflecting on her journey.

Caramelo and Lolita finished third and fourth, respectively, rounding out a competitive final. Despite the intense rivalry, all participants expressed admiration for Mantuliz's achievements and character. His ability to balance physical prowess with a sense of humor and camaraderie made him a standout contestant.

As the competition progressed, Mantuliz faced challenges that tested his limits, including acrobatic feats that left his hands sore and required immense precision and strength. Yet, he maintained a positive attitude throughout, viewing the experience as an opportunity to showcase his true self to the audience.

With a final score of 265 points, Mantuliz's victory was not just a testament to his physical abilities but also to his humanity. He has since begun collaborating with the production company 7yacción on a new television project, further solidifying his connection to the entertainment industry.

Mantuliz's journey in El Desafío has been marked by hard work, empathy, and gratitude. His victory exemplifies that success in television can be built on more than just talent; it can also stem from kindness and a genuine desire to help others. As he moves forward, audiences are left with a lasting impression of a champion who not only conquered challenges but also uplifted those around him.
