As the Dia do Trabalhador holiday approaches, both Goiás and Pará are preparing for extended breaks, with public services affected in both states. On the eve of the holiday, the Departamento Estadual de Trânsito de Goiás (Detran-GO) announced that it will be closed on Thursday, May 1, 2025, and Friday, May 2, 2025. This closure aligns with the national holiday and is in compliance with Decree nº 10.682/2025, issued by the Government of Goiás, which designates May 2 as a day off for state employees.
During this period, the Detran-GO assures that there will be no detriment to citizens. Any documents, fees, or fines due on these holiday days can be settled on the first business day following the break, without incurring any additional charges. This means that residents can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that deadlines will not be strictly enforced during the holiday.
For those who still require services, Detran-GO offers a range of online options available through its official website, the Portal Expresso, and the Detran GO ON app. This app, which is free to download on both the Apple Store and Google Play, provides functionalities such as updating addresses, requesting a definitive CNH (National Driver's License), checking points on driving records, and verifying vehicle data. This digital approach ensures that users can manage their needs without needing to visit an office in person.
Public service will resume its regular schedule on Monday, May 5, 2025, allowing citizens to access the full range of services once again.
Meanwhile, in the state of Pará, the government has confirmed a similar holiday arrangement. Following the national holiday on May 1, the state will also observe an optional holiday on May 2, creating a long weekend for state employees. This was announced in a decree that aligns with the previously established calendar for 2025 published in February. The decree mandates that state employees must compensate for this day off by adding an extra hour to their workday for the following six business days.
The optional holiday will apply to public departments and entities under both direct and indirect administration. However, essential services, particularly those related to health and security, will continue to operate normally, ensuring that critical needs are met even during the holiday.
In a separate incident in Pará, a teenager was apprehended by the 9th Military Police Battalion during an operation named "Filhos da Terra". This operation took place in the rural area of Breves, where police responded to a report of a protective measure violation. The teenager had allegedly threatened a victim with a firearm, prompting the issuance of a protective measure by the court on December 15, 2024.
Upon responding to the call, police found the teenager at the victim's residence, where they also discovered a 20-gauge shotgun. The firearm was believed to belong to the minor, who was subsequently taken into custody along with the weapon. The apprehension highlights ongoing concerns regarding youth violence and the enforcement of protective measures in the region.
As the holiday draws near, residents in both Goiás and Pará are preparing for time off while remaining aware of the ongoing issues in their communities. The combination of holiday closures and law enforcement actions reflects the complex dynamics of public service and safety in Brazil.
