GIS Issues Warnings About Potentially Hazardous Products Withdrawn From Stores
As of March 25, 2025, the Główny Inspektor Sanitarny (GIS) has alerted consumers regarding several products that pose health risks, as they have been pulled from shelves due to contamination and safety concerns.
Among the products recalled is the Herbatka fix rumiankowo-koperkowa (chamomile-fennel tea), which has been found to exceed the acceptable level of pyrrolizidine alkaloids. The batch number is 011023, with a best before date set for September 2026. This recall comes after an official inspection revealed significant health risks associated with its consumption, prompting GIS to issue a public warning.
Besides the herbal tea, the GIS has released a comprehensive list of products deemed unsafe, including a set of thermal mugs from the PETER series by ALLESKEN, which exhibited high levels of lead and cadmium migration. Another warning pertains to Kormoran Radler Gorzka Pomarańcza, a non-alcoholic beer, which poses a risk of bottle damage and possible explosion.
While numerous products were flagged, some critical mentions include:
- Three sauces from the WINIARY brand that contain hazardous substances.
- Witpak Chickpeas flour, recently recalled due to safety concerns.
- Ground beef that was found to harbor Escherichia coli bacteria producing Shiga toxin.
- Infant formula revealed to contain Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.
- Almond flour that exceeded the maximum permissible aflatoxin levels.
It does not stop there; the GIS continually updates the public with bulletins on food safety, indicating critical health issues with various products. Recent reports have also highlighted ochratoxin A found in raisins manufactured by MAKAR BAKALIE SP Z O.O. In fact, several batches of this dried fruit are affected, including those produced in Uzbekistan. The date of minimum durability is set for May 2026.
The GIS has urged consumers not to consume affected products and return them to the respective stores for refunds. Especially after a list was provided that includes eggs, tea, fish, sauces, sweets, meat, gluten-free labeled products that actually contained gluten, and dietary supplements not adhering to safety standards.
In addition to food products, the warnings are not limited to consumer goods alone. Reckitt/Mead Johnson Nutrition Trading Poland has voluntarily recalled Nutramigen LGG Complete infant formula due to potential contamination detected in another series through Cronobacter sakazakii. Parents and guardians are advised to check for the specific batch numbers when purchasing these products to ensure safety for their children.
The action does not discriminate against different types of products, including dietary supplements. The Underground Super Lemon dietary supplement has also been removed from the market due to the high content of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), presenting a substantial health risk.
As consumers venture into stores, they are reminded of the critical role the GIS plays in ensuring their safety. According to a GIS statement, “Products withdrawn from stores due to dangerous bacteria, pesticides, alkaloids, and other harmful chemical compounds make it imperative to stay aware of daily recalls and advisories.” Moreover, it becomes crucial to check your pantry for any items that might feature on this list.
For those affected, the GIS has made it clear that returning products purchased is essential. Various supermarkets, including Biedronka, Lidl, Netto, Kaufland, Auchan, and Żabka, are on alert to remove the recalled items promptly.
Furthermore, consumers should watch out for food imported from abroad, particularly from regions known for less strict safety regulations. Recent inspections have brought to light numerous products with ingredient levels that exceed acceptable budgets, such as Warsaw’s newly unveiled health safety protocol, which encourages checking labels meticulously before purchase.
The overarching message extends to individuals worried about their health. If symptoms linked to any contaminated or recalled items arise, it is crucial to seek medical advice immediately. The GIS continues to advocate for food safety, though the process involves comprehensive checks and repeated warnings to educate the public. Their cycles of communication aim to keep everyone informed about current threats and ensure consumer safety.
In summary, shoppers must remain vigilant. The constant vigilance of the GIS and thorough monitoring of products signify an ongoing commitment to consumer safety, helping prevent potential health hazards from entering the homes of everyday individuals. Always check for the latest advisories, avoid consuming recalled items, and prioritize your health by adhering to public safety guidelines.
