Tokyo Tower will be aglow on December 26 as the Yomiuri Giants celebrate their 90th anniversary with special events, including a spectacular light show and drone display, exclusively broadcasted on GIANTS TV.
The Yomiuri Giants, one of Japan's oldest and most storied baseball teams, are set to mark their seminal anniversary with collaborative festivities alongside the iconic Tokyo Tower. Beginning at around 7 PM on December 26, the tower will be illuminated with vibrant orange lights reminiscent of the Giants' team colors, coinciding with the start of their spectacular drone show.
Notably, starting at 6:45 PM, Giants pitchers Yuhei Takanashi and Osei Matsubara will make guest appearances. Interest is expected to peak as fans tune in to watch their favorite players before the main event kicks off.
The light-up ceremony promises to transform the tower, showcasing the Giants' branding with the TG logo prominently displayed on the main deck's eastern side. At the same time, 400 drones will take to the sky, composing dazzling aerial art to commemorate the team's iconic moments from the past season, which culminated in their 39th league championship win—a title they claimed for the first time in four years.
Prior to the main event, from December 23 to 25, the Tokyo Tower will also host the Giants' festive lighting collaboration, illuminating the tower with alternating colors of the Giants' orange and Christmas hues every 30 minutes from 5 PM until midnight.
During the anniversary period, from December 16 to January 6, the third floor of the Tokyo Tower Foot Town will feature special exhibits celebrating the Giants' legacy. Visitors can enjoy displays of the 2024 JERA Central League championship trophy, pennants, and commemorative monuments, along with engaging photo opportunities.
Giants fans are encouraged to come out to witness the tower's transformation and partake in the seasonal festivities, particularly as it aims to magnify the communal spirit of the holiday season. The highlights, together with the exclusive broadcast of the drone show, exemplify the Giants' commitment to engaging with their fanbase and celebrating their storied history.
Additional events such as the Orange Illumination 2024, held at the Tokyo Tower entrance plaza between December 16 and 25, will feature unique decorations, contributing to the festive atmosphere. These lighting events are not just about spectacle; they serve as markers of the Giants' rich history and their strong ties to the community.
Fans watching from home or attending will find plenty to celebrate as the excitement of Tokyo Tower and the Giants intersect on this memorable occasion.
