Get Ready For Days Gone Remastered Launching April 25

New game modes, improved graphics, and accessibility features promise to redefine the zombie survival game experience.

Days Gone, the fan-favorite open-world zombie survival game, is set to return with its remastered version for PlayStation 5, officially announced during the latest State of Play event. Launching on April 25, 2023, Days Gone Remastered promises to deliver the definitive way to experience the game, providing both new content and significant improvements from its 2019 predecessor.

Kevin McAllister, writing on the PlayStation Blog, emphasized the enhanced experience players can expect, describing the remaster as, "the definitive way to play Days Gone for new and returning players." This new version is the result of collaboration between Bend Studio and Climax Studios, bringing alongside it several new gameplay modes including the exciting 'Horde Assault,' which challenges players to battle massive waves of zombies for high scores.

Alongside this arcade-inspired mode, Days Gone Remastered introduces options catering to dedicated players, like the 'Permadeath' mode, where one misstep can lead to starting over. For those who enjoy speed, the 'Speedrun' mode allows gamers to complete the campaign as quickly as possible, fostering competitive play. With these modes, Days Gone aims to offer replayability for fans and attract new players eager to engage with the game’s expansive world.

Graphically, the remaster is taking advantage of the PlayStation 5’s capabilities. Enhancements include improved graphical fidelity, higher foliage draw distance, enhanced shadow and lighting quality, and support for Tempest 3D Audio, ensuring players have the most immersive experience possible. Those with PS5 Pro consoles can anticipate even greater visual upgrades.

Accessibility also remains a priority; the remaster will feature various options such as High Contrast mode, Game Speed adjustments, UI Narration, customizable Controller Mapping, and a Field of View slider. These enhancements work to widen the game's audience, ensuring it is accessible to more players than ever before.

Days Gone Remastered will be made available as a digital-only offering. Players who already own the original game for PlayStation 4 will have the option to upgrade to Remastered for just $9.99. New players can purchase the remastered version for $49.99. For PC users, the newly introduced content will be available through the 'Broken Roads' DLC, allowing them to enjoy the same modes and features but without the same visual upgrades found on the PS5.

This announcement follows the mixed reviews received by the original Days Gone at its 2019 launch, which led to limited expectations for subsequent projects from Bend Studio. While the game garnered praise from its dedicated fanbase, Sony has reportedly declined opportunities for direct sequels. Despite Bend Studio's initial hopes for continuing Deacon’s story, the studio faced cancellation of its plans for new original IP live-service game.

With the upcoming remaster, there’s anticipation within the community, especially considering the game’s unique take on the zombie genre and the dynamic world it presented. Players took on the role of Deacon St. John, exploring the Pacific Northwest as he battled hordes of the undead, with the engaging storyline focusing on his quest to find his missing wife.

Reportedly, pre-ordering Days Gone Remastered will reward players with eight PSN avatars based on game characters, along with early access to specific gameplay features. The remaster's release brings hope and excitement to the dedicated following, who take pride in the game’s unique elements.

Yet, with the hype surrounding the remaster, some fans are left feeling disgruntled. The announcement arrives amid widespread speculation and desire for news about other beloved games, particularly Bloodborne, which has seen fervent interest for remastering or updated support. The juxtaposition of Days Gone's remaster alongside the absence of Bloodborne insights has led to mixed feelings among gamers.

On social media, sentiments are shared between excitement for the Days Gone Remastered and frustration over the lack of attention for substantial updates to its predecessor. The case of Bloodborne—and similar titles—raises questions about Sony’s strategic gaming portfolio and how they assess which games merit upgraded re-releases.

Nevertheless, as the April launch approaches, players can look forward to testing out new content and experiencing Days Gone’s remastered graphics. The blend of nostalgia and fresh gameplay experiences ensures many are eager to return to the post-apocalyptic landscapes once more.
