Gen Hoshino Announces New Album Gen And Releases Star

The singer-songwriter reveals tracklist and pre-releases lead single ahead of May 14 launch.

Japanese singer-songwriter Gen Hoshino is set to release his highly anticipated new album, Gen, on May 14, 2025. The album, which marks Hoshino's sixth original studio effort, features a total of 16 tracks, including both previously released singles and new material.

Today, on April 23, 2025, Hoshino officially unveiled the tracklist for Gen and kicked off the pre-release of the album's lead single, Star. This song has already generated significant buzz as it serves as the theme for an Asahi beverage commercial featuring Hoshino himself. The commercial has sparked discussions on social media, particularly because the word "Star" evokes Hoshino's name, making it a fitting title for the album.

The album includes well-known tracks like "Creation," released in 2021, along with new songs such as "Mad Hope (feat. Louis Cole, Sam Gendel, Sam Wilkes)." This particular track also shares its name with Hoshino's upcoming national tour, Gen Hoshino presents MAD HOPE, which kicks off in May 2025.

In addition to Louis Cole, the album boasts contributions from a variety of featured artists, including Camilo, Cordae, Lee Youngji, UMI, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. Each of these collaborations adds a unique flavor to the album, promising a diverse listening experience for fans.

The pre-released track, Star, is described as having a refreshing and funky sound, making it a perfect introduction to the world of Gen. One notable lyric from the song, "好きを源に" ("From my source of love"), resonates deeply with Hoshino's artistic vision and the themes of the album.

Fans can now pre-order the album on major streaming platforms like Apple Music and Spotify, as well as through the iTunes Store. The physical release of Gen will be available in three formats: a regular edition, a limited edition Box Set "Poetry", and a Box Set "Visual".

The Box Set "Poetry" includes a CD along with a 224-page photo poetry collection titled Mad Hope, which features Hoshino's original poems and prose. Additionally, it comes with three exclusive posters and liner notes titled "From 808 Studio." Meanwhile, details about the Box Set "Visual" will be announced soon.

Hoshino's last album, POP VIRUS, was released in 2018, making this new project a significant return for the artist after about six and a half years. The gradual reveal of the album's title and specifications since its announcement in November 2024 has heightened anticipation among fans.

On April 15, during an episode of his radio program Gen Hoshino's All Night Nippon, Hoshino shared that the album was completed, further fueling excitement. As fans eagerly await the release, they are also curious about which tracks from his past work might be included in this new album.

The tour, Gen Hoshino presents MAD HOPE, will take place across various locations in Japan, starting on May 15, 2025, at Aichi Sky Expo, followed by multiple sold-out shows in Hokkaido, Saitama, Miyagi, Fukuoka, Osaka, and Okinawa throughout May and June. Additional performances are scheduled for September and October 2025, with tickets priced at ¥11,000 (tax included).

As Hoshino continues to push creative boundaries and connect with his audience, Gen is poised to be another remarkable addition to his discography. With its blend of familiar hits and fresh collaborations, this album is expected to resonate deeply with both longtime fans and new listeners alike.

In summary, Gen Hoshino's upcoming album Gen not only showcases his growth as an artist but also highlights the collaborative spirit that has become a hallmark of his music. The excitement surrounding the album's release and the national tour reflects Hoshino's enduring appeal and the powerful connection he maintains with his audience.
