Gas Explosion In Ho Chi Minh City Leaves Two Dead

A tragic gas leak incident in Thu Duc City results in fatalities and raises safety concerns.

On May 10, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded in the Tang Nhon Phu A ward of Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, where a gas leak led to a devastating explosion and fire, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving another in critical condition.

At approximately 9:30 AM, residents in alley number 4 of street 182 were startled by a loud explosion emanating from a rented room deep within the alley. Witnesses reported that the sound was particularly jarring, especially as it occurred during a rainstorm. One local resident recalled, "At that moment, it was raining, and I heard a loud explosion... I ran over and saw two men severely burned." The explosion triggered a fierce blaze that quickly engulfed the area, prompting immediate action from nearby residents who rushed to help.

Despite their efforts to douse the flames, the situation escalated, necessitating the involvement of the Ho Chi Minh City Fire Department. Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call at 10:28 AM. They fought valiantly to control the fire, which was raging in the small boarding house.

The aftermath of the explosion revealed a grim scene. A woman, identified as 45-year-old H., was found dead at the location, her body severely burned. Two men, both suffering from critical burns, were transported to Le Van Viet Hospital for emergency treatment. Tragically, one of these men succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, while the other was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The police have since sealed off the area and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and fire. Nguyen Thanh Huong, the deputy director of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department, was present at the scene to oversee the investigation efforts. Authorities are particularly focused on the possibility of a gas leak being the catalyst for this catastrophic event.

As the investigation unfolds, it has been confirmed that the two fatalities included H. and a man believed to be around 50 years old. The critically injured man is D., approximately 23 years old, and is reported to be the son of the deceased woman.

This incident in Thu Duc City is not isolated; just a day earlier, on May 9, another explosion occurred in Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai, resulting in two fatalities as well. These incidents raise significant concerns about safety protocols related to gas usage in residential areas.

In light of these events, local authorities are urging residents to exercise caution and ensure that their gas appliances are properly maintained to prevent such tragedies in the future. The community is left in shock as they mourn the loss of life and grapple with the implications of these recent explosions.

As the investigation continues, officials are expected to provide updates on their findings and any measures that will be implemented to enhance safety in the area. The tragic loss of life has not only affected the families of the victims but has also sent ripples of fear throughout the community, prompting discussions about the importance of safety regulations and emergency preparedness.

In a city where gas usage is common, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that can arise from negligence or equipment failure. The local government has been urged to take proactive steps to educate residents about gas safety and to enforce stricter regulations to prevent future occurrences.

As investigations continue, the community stands united in their grief, hoping for swift justice and preventive measures that will ensure such a tragedy does not happen again. The impact of these explosions will be felt for a long time, as families mourn their losses and the community seeks to heal.
