Garde And Show Dancing Events Celebrate Tradition

Major dance competitions showcase talent and community spirit.

Two remarkable dance events recently illuminated the vibrant tradition of Garde and show dancing: the 32nd Garde- und Showtanzturnier and the 19th Ball der Garde- und Schautänze. Each attracted participation from various dance groups across regions, reinforcing the cultural significance of such gatherings.

The 32nd Garde- und Showtanzturnier took place on March 11, 2025, at the historic Gocher Kastell. This longstanding tournament has earned praise for its high-quality performances. This year, it witnessed the participation of 78 dance groups, representing 34 associations, with around 1000 dancers showcasing their skills. The enthusiastic atmosphere and the diverse range of performances captured the essence of competitive dance celebrating the carnival spirit, proving once again why the event is beloved among participants and spectators alike.

Meanwhile, one week earlier, on March 8, 2025, the 19th Ball der Garde- und Schautänze kicked off at the Hergispachhalle in Herschbach. Organized by the TSG Westerwald-Mittelrhein 2003 e. V., this annual event drew 50 associations who participated with 70 performances. The ball commenced at 1:00 PM and continued until after midnight on March 9. The venue was filled to capacity, with attendees from various regions, making it clear how much the local and extended communities cherish this tradition.

The competitive spirit was palpable at both events, with expert juries evaluating performances based on precise criteria. Despite the competitive nature, the atmosphere remained friendly, encouraging everyone involved to put forth their best efforts and enjoy the dance. Notably, audience engagement played a huge role at the Ball der Garde- und Schautänze, as spectators enthusiastically applauded each group, providing motivation and upliftment for the dancers.

Margret Piroth, from the organizing team, expressed her thoughts on the event's execution: "We, das sind meine Töchter Ramona und Karina, sowie alle Mitglieder und Helfer unseres Vereins, sind geschafft, aber auch überglücklich, dass es uns erneut gelungen ist, diese Mammutveranstaltung reibungslos über die Bühne zu bringen." Her reflections underscored the hard work involved and the delight at the successful outcome. She also highlighted the importance of collaboration with community partners, thanking the city of Selters and local rescue services for their support.

The challenges of organizing such large-scale events cannot be understated. For both gatherings, logistics played a key role. Volunteers and members worked tirelessly to set up and clear the venues, ensuring everything went smoothly. At the Hergispachhalle, immediate clearance after the event was necessary to prepare for subsequent functions. Such efforts highlight the dedication of all involved to uphold these cherished traditions.

The love for dance was evident not only from the performances but also from the connections made within the community, as participants and audience members alike celebrated their shared passion. Each performance was greeted with loud cheers and applause, as supporters recognized the efforts put forth by the dancers, particularly when they took the stage with nerves and excitement.

Both the Garde- und Showtanzturnier and the Ball der Garde- und Schautänze reflect more than just competitive dancing; they symbolize the unity and cultural richness of the communities involved. Festivals like these not only celebrate the artistic talents of the dancers but also fortify community ties, creating cherished memories for years to come. They remind us how celebration through dance brings people together, fostering connection through shared joy and artistry.
