'Frühling' Series Continues To Captivate With New Episodes

Simone Thomalla leads the beloved ZDF series, now featuring new faces and heartfelt tributes.

'Frühling,' one of ZDF's most beloved series, continues to capture the hearts of viewers with its latest episodes. Starring TV star Simone Thomalla, who portrays the village helper solving both small and big problems, the show has reached impressive viewership milestones. The newest episode aired on Sunday, attracting over 5.6 million viewers, marking the highest ratings for the 'Herzkino' slot since March 2024.

With the broadcast of 'Die Mutter, die es nie gab,' audiences were introduced not only to engaging storylines but also notable guest appearances. Among them is well-known TV presenter Andrea Kaiser, who plays the role of a radio moderator. What makes this guest spot even more special is the appearance of her son, Tim, who plays her nephew. "Timmi wanted to play along. Then there was a role available... to my surprise, he took it very seriously and did well," Kaiser shared, expressing pride and surprise at her son’s serious approach to acting.

The series, known for its heartwarming tales, faced some changes this season, particularly with the loss of veteran actress Ruth Wohlschlegel, who played the beloved character Lissy Krug. Her passing left a poignant absence among the cast. The show's stars expressed their sorrow on Instagram: "With deep sadness, we say goodbye to Ruth Wohlschlegel, who gave us unforgettable moments as Lissy Krug... She will always remain in our memory."

Welcoming new talent to fill the void left by Wohlschlegel, Monika Manz joins 'Frühling' as Irene Rachel. Initially introduced merely as one of the town's residents, viewers can expect her character to evolve throughout the series. Her arrival is particularly welcomed by Catalina Navarro Kirner, who plays Heidrun and was close friends with the late Wohlschlegel. "It would have been extremely difficult for me to see someone unfamiliar taking Ruth's place... I think Ruth would have agreed with this decision," Navarro Kirner remarked, underlining the strong bonds of friendship and professional respect within the cast.

The producers note how relationships behind the scenes have influenced casting choices. Navarro Kirner played a key role in ensuring her friend was cast, stating: "I am her fan and think Monika fits perfectly with 'Frühling'." Manz has previously been recognized for her work on the popular series, 'Dahoam is dahoam,' and is well-liked among audiences.

This season's episodes not only explore community dynamics but also tap deeply personal narratives. Kaiser expressed excitement and nervousness about sharing the screen with her son. "It was such a beautiful day. I was actually more nervous than when I'm alone in front of the camera," she admitted, shedding light on her dual role as both mother and actor.

Fans of 'Frühling' can stay engaged with the series by tuning in every Sunday at 20:15 on ZDF or streaming the episodes on the ZDF-Mediathek. The series has built its legacy on the foundation of strong character connections and storytelling, continuing to adapt and grow with its audience.

The emotional themes of friendship, loss, and community woven through 'Frühling' remind viewers of the importance of connection, both on television and off. With the introduction of new characters and storylines, the series promises to continue offering relatable and heartfelt narratives.
