Frisco Community Mourns Loss Of Austin Metcalf

Austin Metcalf, 17, fatally stabbed at track meet, sparking grief and calls for change

In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the Frisco community, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed during a high school track meet on April 2, 2025. The altercation occurred at approximately 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium, where students from various schools were competing in the UIL District 11-5A championships.

According to reports, the confrontation began over a dispute regarding seating. Karmelo Anthony, a 17-year-old senior at Frisco Centennial High School, was allegedly told he was in the wrong seat before he drew a knife and stabbed Metcalf in the chest. Witnesses say the incident escalated rapidly, and Metcalf's twin brother, Hunter, was present during the attack.

Hunter Metcalf rushed to aid his brother, who was left bleeding on the ground. "I tried to whip around as fast as I could," Hunter recalled, visibly shaken. "I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him." Despite the efforts of emergency responders who administered CPR and blood transfusions, Austin was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital.

Jeff Metcalf, Austin's father, expressed profound grief over the loss of his son, describing him as a bright young man with a promising future. "He was going to turn out to be a great individual and impact this world with positivity," Jeff said in an emotional interview. "I was so proud." He also extended condolences to Anthony's family, recognizing the tragic consequences of the incident for all involved. "I feel for [the suspect's] family because now their son will end up in prison and learn that he killed someone, and he devastated and killed my son who I can never get back. It's unfortunate for everyone involved," Jeff added.

Following the stabbing, Karmelo Anthony was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held at Collin County Jail with no bond set. Frisco Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The Frisco Independent School District (ISD) released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident. "We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a student within Frisco ISD. The Board of Trustees shares in the profound grief of this senseless act of violence and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones," said Dynette Davis, a trustee of the district.
