French Television Rings In New Shows And Holiday Specials

From festive dramas to beloved game show comebacks, viewers have much to celebrate this season.

French television is buzzing with excitement as several beloved shows receive updates and new seasons just around the corner. From returning favorites to Christmas specials, viewers have plenty to look forward to this holiday season.

Chad Michael Murray, known for his previous roles, is making waves with his new series, Retour à Sullivan's Crossing, available on TF1+. The show has captivated audiences and been renewed for a third season. Murray plays Cal Jones, a character shrouded in mystery. He describes, "Everyone wants to crack the mystery, understand who he is, as he’s the quiet guy from the area. But he reveals himself as the episodes progress." The actor draws parallels between himself and his character, claiming, "I’m someone who is there for others, particularly those I love."

Filming took place in the enchanting region of Nova Scotia, which Murray describes as "the best-kept secret of North America." He emphasizes the authenticity of the location, stating, "It’s magical... it’s such a privilege to spend five months of the year there." He believes the show resonates because audiences see themselves healing alongside the characters. Murray insists, "That’s why I advise to binge-watch the series. Dive right in!"

Meanwhile, holiday cheer is also on the horizon for fans of Demain nous appartient and Ici tout commence, which will be airing episodes on Christmas Day. Fans need not fret about missing their daily dose of drama. Demain nous appartient will air its special episode at 7:10 PM, featuring Victoire and Samuel as they navigate complex relationships. The exciting plot twists continue with police drama as the character Thibault Rosset faces justice for his actions.

Ici tout commence has prepared festive twists, as the characters come together for their unique Christmas celebration at the Auguste Armand Institute. Lionel, one of the characters, faces off against his estranged father during preparations for the buffet, marking moments filled with tension and surprise.

Adding to the vibrancy of the French television scene is The Voice, which is set for its 14th season with changes to its coaching panel. While Vianney remains, joining him are Patricia Kaas, Zaz, and the much-anticipated return of Florent Pagny after stepping away due to health concerns. The show's trailer shows the coaches hearing Pagny’s voice, culminating with his emotional performance on stage. Auditions are expected to begin early next year, promising fresh dynamics and intense competition among new contestants.

Lastly, nostalgia fills the air with the return of the classic game show Le Bigdil. Vincent Lagaf’ is back to host the updated version, set to premiere on January 2, 2025, on RMC Story. This revival will captivate audiences weekly instead of daily, promising bursts of excitement as old favorites see fresh life. Lagaf’ expresses his enthusiasm: "The show has always been about fun and ridiculousness, and that's what we're bringing back to the screen." The first episode and subsequent ones will adapt slightly, fluctuated between dates, showcasing RMC Story’s strategic planning to keep the audience engaged.

Overall, French television is gearing up for a monumental holiday season filled with captivating dramas, emotional musical showcases, and nostalgic game shows, ensuring viewers have plenty to celebrate. Whether they’re following characters through their emotional journeys or enjoying classic entertainment, there's something doing for every viewer's taste.
