Launched on January 23, 2025, Lucie's rollout was marked by immediate failures. Users took to social media to share snippets of the chatbot’s absurd responses, including calculating the weight of a "hole in cheese" or confusing cow eggs with chicken eggs. One user asked about the number of "r`s" in the word "strawberry" and received the baffling answer of "one." Another posed the math question of "5(3+2)"; Lucie's answers first incorrectly stated 17, then 50, showcasing its inability to handle even basic mathematical calculations.
This bewildering performance quickly turned Lucie from promising technology to the subject of ridicule on the internet. Critics and enthusiasts alike were quick to mock the chatbot for its nonsensical outputs. Linagora's management could hardly believe the speed with which Lucie was criticized.
