Free Tax Filing Assistance Programs Across Netherlands

Local libraries and organizations offer help for low-income residents facing tax declarations.

Tax season can be stressful, especially for those who are struggling financially. Fortunately, residents of several Dutch cities have access to free assistance programs aimed at easing this burden. From Alphen aan den Rijn to Gouda, local libraries and organizations are coming together to provide much-needed support for tax filings.

For those living in Alphen aan den Rijn, the Bibliotheek Rijn en Venen is offering volunteer assistance for filling out the 2024 tax declaration. Available from March 10 until April 14, 2025, volunteers will be on hand to help locals navigate the tax filing process. To make use of this service, interested individuals need to schedule an appointment by calling DigiLijn at 0172 - 475 771 or sending an email to [email protected]. It’s important to note this service is exclusively available on appointment basis, so planning is key.

Those attending should prepare necessary documentation, including the annual income statement for 2024, valid identification (such as a passport or driver’s license), and their DigiD credentials, which include the login and the phone number associated with the account. If partners are participating, they must also bring the same documents and attend the meeting. This service targets individuals with low income or those who may find it difficult to file their taxes digitally.

Meanwhile, the assistance doesn't stop at Alphen aan den Rijn. Residents of Bergen op Zoom can look forward to help from WijZijn, which is organizing sessions on February 27, March 11, and March 18. These sessions will focus on helping residents apply for kwijtschelding (waiver) of municipal taxes for those who might be struggling to pay their bills. The program aims to support individuals facing financial difficulties tied to local property taxes.

Residents can attend the sessions at WijZijn on Jacob Obrechtlaan 5. It’s recommended to bring the relevant letter received from the taxing authority, which outlines tax obligations, and their DigiD. Each appointment allows residents to pose questions and complete applications as needed. Near the end of February, Bergen op Zoom residents will receive notices about their tax responsibilities, including information on sewage and waste collection taxes.

For individuals needing assistance elsewhere, the Papierwinkel and the Bibiliotheek are collaborating within Gouda. Schedule appointments between March 8 and March 21, 2025, to receive assistance with tax filings at several locations, including De Walvis and Nelson Mandela Centrum. Importantly, using DigiD requires residents to have their mobile phones available for logging in, which is now mandatory for receiving assistance with tax filings.

To get started, residents are encouraged to contact the Sociaal Team Gouda by calling 088 900 4321 to secure their appointments. The need for proper documentation remains steadfast across all venues, ensuring volunteers can efficiently assist with the appropriate information at hand.

The implementation of these programs highlights the importance of providing accessible services to help low-income residents manage their tax obligations. With such public resources available, residents are urged to take advantage of these opportunities before the tax deadlines hit. Making informed efforts to engage with these services can significantly ease one’s financial burden during tax season.

Collectively, these efforts represent the hard work of community volunteers and organizations dedicated to supporting those who may feel overwhelmed by the tax filing process. Every step—from securing appointments to gathering necessary documents—plays a fundamental role in facilitating this assistance and ensuring everyone can fulfill their tax responsibilities.
