Free Rush Hour Travel Offered On Highway 407 ETR

Ontario drivers can enjoy toll-free travel during peak hours all month long.

Ontario drivers have been granted good news as the Highway 407 ETR launched its "Spring Into Free Rush Hour" promotion, offering free access on weekdays during peak hours throughout March 2025. From March 1 to March 31, personal vehicles with Ontario license plates can travel for free on Highway 407 during rush hour, making this month the perfect opportunity for commuters to save on their daily travel expenses.

The promotional offer allows eligible drivers to access the highway without incurring toll charges, which can significantly alleviate costs for many motorists. The free travel period runs every weekday from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM and from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. This initiative aims to address the rising cost of living and increasing gridlock faced by commuters across the province.

While many drivers are likely to benefit from this promotion, there are eligibility requirements to keep in mind. Personal vehicles registered with Ontario license plates qualify for the promotion, which excludes heavy vehicle traffic. Eligible motorists will enjoy waived toll, trip, and camera charges, along with applicable account fees during the specified hours. These discounts will be reflected as promotional credits on drivers’ bills.

"The applicable discounts will appear on your bill as a promotional credit," confirmed the 407 ETR. It's important to note, though, transponder lease fees still apply for those who lease these devices.

To take advantage of the free travel offer, drivers must sign up for a My Account on the Highway 407 ETR website and enroll for the promotion. It’s recommended to complete the registration process before utilizing the highway, as those who fail to do so may find themselves incurring regular toll fees. This promotion is exclusively for existing customers and new sign-ups who follow the necessary enrollment steps.

“Last month, we targeted over one million customers with rush hour driving offers,” stated a spokesperson for the highway. “Promotions ranged from one to three months, and had different driving terms, all targeting rush hour periods.” This outreach suggests the operators of Highway 407 ETR are actively engaging with commuters to alleviate some of the financial burden during peak traffic times.

The promotional offer excludes travel during Ontario statutory holidays; fortunately, March does not feature any statutory holidays, so eligible drivers can fully benefit from the offer throughout the month. The absence of holidays might also hint at the potential for extending the promotion beyond March, especially since the next statutory holiday falls at the start of April.

While the promotion might seem straightforward, it’s wise for drivers to remain attentive. Motorists who wish to capitalize on the free travel must first log onto their My Account, agree to the My Account and Paperless Agreement terms, and make sure their contact details are current to receive promotional communications.

For those leaving the familiar routes behind, this could be the incentive needed to try Highway 407 ETR. Alternatives like Highway 401 tend to be congested, and the free access during rush hours could ease the burden on GTA drivers who often face delays on standard routes. If you’ve resisted taking this toll road due to high fees, now might be the ideal time to reconsider.

The initiative not only alleviates financial pressures for commuters but might also have broader traffic benefits. With fewer cars on alternative routes, the overall travel experience could improve for everyone using the road infrastructure.

Drivers who are already accustomed to using Highway 407 may find this promotion particularly beneficial, allowing them to save significantly on their daily expenditures for the month. With highways being the lifelines of urban commuting, promotional offers like these serve to encourage continued engagement from drivers.

While the promotion extends through the month of March, the highway officials have yet to confirm whether similar offers will be available beyond this month or if they'll revisit such initiatives as encounters with traffic congestion evolve.

So grab your keys and maybe rethink how you travel this month. Highway 407 has thrown down the gauntlet, making it more enticing than ever for drivers seeking to minimize costs and maximize time savings on their rush hour journeys.
