France Issues Urgent Food Product Recalls

Public alerted as Aro ham and Jeca potatoes are pulled from stores over safety concerns.

Recent food product recalls have raised significant safety concerns among consumers in France. Two products, Aro brand ham and Jeca company potatoes, have been subjects of urgent alerts due to issues related to their packaging and labeling.

The Aro ham recall stems from identified problems with its packaging. Specifically, microleaks and defective seals were found, which can compromise food safety.
Reports indicate these issues could adversely affect the preservation conditions of the ham, posing serious risks to public health. Supermarkets, particularly Metro, which caters to professional clientele, have been distributing the affected ham. Initially set to expire on February 19, 2025, this ham should now not be consumed, and immediate removal from shelves is mandated.

Consumer safety authorities, along with the Rappel Conso website, have issued stringent recommendations. They advise against consuming the affected ham and stress the need to return it to the point of purchase for refunds. Shoppers have until December 27, 2024, to return the product for reimbursement. Meanwhile, the Jeca company reported another significant recall on January 3, 2024, due to serious mislabeling errors concerning its potatoes. The affected product includes garlic-roasted potatoes packaged in 600g containers. These potatoes had been incorrectly labeled with expiration dates causing confusion among consumers. Although the label feature states May 1, 2025, the correct expiration date is January 5, 2025, prompting Jeca to act cautiously by issuing the recall and advising consumers not to consume the product. Jeca’s preventive measures are intended to avoid any mishaps related to mislabeling.

These potatoes were distributed through major retailers including Intermarché, Système U, and Carrefour between December 3 and December 19. Consumers can easily spot the affected items by referencing barcode 3271620100013 and lot number M241100951. The urgency of the recall highlights the responsibility of companies to assure accurate product information. Jeca has also encouraged any consumers who purchased these potatoes to return them to the store for refunds until January 20, 2025, and provided contact information for their customer service at 03 87 87 65 10.
