Ford Recalls Over 4,000 Explorer SUVs For Safety Issues

The trim issue could lead to detachment, posing risks to road safety.

Ford Motor Co. is taking proactive measures to assure customer safety by recalling over 4,000 Explorer SUVs sold in Vietnam due to potential safety issues related to the exterior A-pillar trim. According to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), this recall will affect 4,142 vehicles manufactured between May 17, 2010, and March 3, 2019.

The problem stems from the assembly process, where the exterior A-pillar trim may not be properly fitted. This failure can lead to the trim becoming loose or detaching from the vehicle during operations, posing hazards to other road users. The issue may also arise from improperly engaged A-pillar trim retention clips, particularly after repairs involving the windshield, as these repairs often require the removal and reinstallation of trim pieces.

The recall program is set to run until January 15, 2030. Owners of affected vehicles are encouraged to bring their SUVs to Ford dealers for thorough inspection and replacement of the A-pillar trim if necessary, completely free of charge. The entire process is expected to take around 1.5 hours, allowing sufficient time for vehicle owners to address the issue.

Ford emphasizes its commitment to customer safety with this recall, ensuring peace of mind for Explorer owners. The company reinforces the importance of addressing such safety concerns, which, even though the trim issue does not directly affect vehicle operation, could lead to dangerous situations if the trim detaches unexpectedly.

For those who imported their Ford Explorers to Vietnam through other means and not directly from official Ford dealers, Ford has clarified those vehicles are also eligible for inspection and repairs under this recall program.

This situation echoes earlier incidents, as back in January 2024, Ford had issued another massive recall for nearly 1.9 million Explorer models due to similar issues with A-pillar trim pieces. The previous recall highlighted concerns about the engagement of trim retention clips, which, like the current situation, posed risks to drivers and surrounding road users alike.

Ford's effort with this recall is part of their broader strategy to maintain customer safety and satisfaction, reinforcing their public commitment to address and rectify known issues swiftly. Industry experts believe this recall not only helps safeguard customers but also works to bolster Ford's brand reputation as they strive to demonstrate transparency and accountability.

Turnout for vehicle inspections and repairs is expected to be high, and owners are encouraged to act quickly to schedule their appointments. While the company is prepared for expected demand, they advise all safety-conscious owners not to delay addressing the trim issue to protect themselves and others on the road.

With this recall, Ford Fluently addresses current customer safety concerns and demonstrates its long-term commitment to vehicle integrity and public safety. Featured prominently is the auto manufacturer’s promise to deliver quality and reliability, characteristics deeply engrained within the Ford brand's legacy.
