Emergency Medical Services pronounced Burrell deceased at the scene. A spokesperson for the New York City Fire Department revealed that the 911 caller reported she had gone into cardiac arrest. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

She graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo with a degree in English and Communications in 1991 before pursuing her passion at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, graduating in 1996.
