Florianópolis Welcomes 2025 With Dazzling Fireworks Display

City plans special music performances, extended shopping hours, and traffic management for New Year’s Eve festivities.

Florianópolis is gearing up for its highly anticipated New Year’s Eve 2025 celebration, which promises to be both vibrant and visually captivating. According to the city officials, the festivities will see the return of fireworks, with a spectacular display set to last around 15 minutes. These celebrations will not only welcome the New Year but also mark the revitalization of traditional celebrations after they were modified last year due to safety concerns.

The highlight of the night will undoubtedly be the fireworks show, featuring specially positioned barges to create stunning visuals for the public. These fireworks will produce colorful designs such as hearts, stars, and geometric shapes and are engineered to be less noisy than traditional ones. Last year's celebration replaced fireworks with drone displays, which, according to the city, did not meet the expectations of some attendees. The city seeks to balance the desire for excitement with consideration for noise levels.

To complement the pyrotechnics, the iconic Hercílio Luz Bridge will be adorned with scenic lighting after more than ten years, eleving the visual experience of the celebration. The planned schedule includes performances from popular musicians at two major venues along the waterfront: Beira-Mar Norte, featuring artists like Munhoz & Mariano, and Beira-Mar Continental, where Kamisa 10 will entertain the crowd.

Musical performances are set to commence early, with various local artists joining the national acts to create a festive atmosphere. The schedule includes the following:

Beira-Mar Norte:

  • Ed Soul - 20h - 21h30
  • Jonny Voice - 21h30 - 22h
  • DJ Fewie - 22h - 23h30
  • Entre Elas - 23h30 - 00h
  • Show of Fireworks and Waterfall - 00h15 - 01h45
  • Munhoz & Mariano - 2h30 onwards

Beira-Mar Continental:

  • Luciane Fromholz (Tata) - 20h - 21h30
  • Dazaranha - 21h30 - 22h
  • DJ Naticandy - 22h - 23h30
  • Quinteto SA - 23h30 - 00h
  • Show of Fireworks and Waterfall - 00h15 - 01h45
  • Kamisa 10 - 2h30 onwards

With the influx of both locals and visitors expected to converge on the city, special public transportation arrangements have been made to facilitate movement. On December 31, municipal buses will operate on Saturday schedules, with around 60 extra buses focusing on routes through the Integrated Terminal of the City Center (Ticen) and along Beira-Mar Norte.

Shops throughout the city will also be extending their hours on New Year’s Eve to accommodate the last-minute shoppers seeking supplies for their celebrations. According to Júlio Geremias, president of the Chamber of Directors of Commerce (CDL), the extended shopping hours are not only about convenience for customers but also boost the local economy significantly during this peak shopping period.

The street commerce will be operating until 1 PM on December 31 and will remain closed on January 1 before reverting to normal hours on January 2. Meanwhile, shopping malls like Beiramar Shopping will open from 10 AM to 5 PM on December 31, yet remain closed on January 1 for retail operations. Food and entertainment areas will run on reduced hours, opening from 12 PM to 10 PM.

Traffic management will also play a significant role as many areas will be restricted to pedestrian access only to maximize safety and enjoyment. Significant road closures will begin from 8 PM on December 31 at the Hercílio Luz Bridge. Pedestrians will also be restricted from the southern side of the bridge by 10 PM. Traffic redirections will occur through multiple phases to smoothly accommodate the influx of celebrants.

The planned phases of traffic management include:

Phase 1 (18h - 22h): Traffic heading to neighborhoods will be redirected to the Marginal Beira-Mar Norte. Central-bound traffic will continue with alternates available.

Phase 2 (22h - 23h30): Traffic flow on the neighborhood direction continues on Marginal Beira-Mar Norte.

Phase 3 (23h30 - 4h): All access points to the Beira-Mar Norte exclusive to the public.

This careful planning not only ensures logistical organization but reflects Florianópolis's commitment to delivering vibrant and enjoyable experiences for all attendees as the city rings in the New Year. It's set to be a night filled with joy, music, and dazzling displays as the residents and guests of Florianópolis celebrate the arrival of 2025 together!
