Fire Breaks Out At Kimara Daycare Center On New Year's Eve

Investigations point to fireworks as the likely cause, but no injuries reported.

On New Year's Eve, the Kimara Daycare Center in Vantaa was engulfed in flames, prompting investigations to identify the cause. Eyewitness reports suggest the fire may have been sparked by fireworks, as indicated by police investigator Sampsa Aukio.

According to Aukio, surveillance footage may provide valuable information about those present at the scene when the fire broke out shortly after midnight. "We have good leads for this investigation," he stated.

The incident occurred around 12:10 AM, and fortunately, the daycare was closed at the time, meaning no injuries were reported. Vantaa city officials confirmed the building suffered severe damage and is currently not suitable for use as a daycare.

Ropi Toivonen, who captured the fire on video, expressed his dismay at witnessing his former daycare ablaze. "A horrifying sight. It's quite sad to see the old daycare I attended years ago engulfed in flames," he said.

The city is actively searching for alternative facilities to continue daycare services, with plans to reopen at new locations after the Christmas break, on January 7. Details about these arrangements will be communicated to parents by the end of the week.

The community has responded with shock at the loss of such a familiar place. The emotional toll of seeing the daycare, which holds significant memories for many locals, burning has brought forth reflections from residents about fire safety and community involvement during celebrations.

Authorities have launched their investigation but have not yet confirmed the identities of any suspects. The police are expected to review the gathered evidence and witness statements closely.

While the immediate concern is dealing with the aftermath of the fire, residents of Vantaa are also left contemplating the importance of safety measures during festivities like New Year's Eve, where fireworks are traditionally part of the celebration.
