Financial Support For Elderly Beneficiaries Starts May 7

Electoral ban affects payments for some in Veracruz and Durango as bimonthly schedule is set.

The Pensión Bienestar program in Mexico is set to provide financial support to millions of elderly beneficiaries, with payments of 6,200 pesos scheduled for distribution from May 7 to May 30, 2025. This initiative aims to improve the quality of life for those aged 65 and older, offering a bimonthly financial lifeline to millions across the country.

However, not all beneficiaries will receive their payments this month. The Secretariat of Welfare has confirmed that elderly residents of Veracruz and Durango will not receive their payments during this period due to an electoral ban in place for local elections. Instead, these individuals received double payments in March to cover the "marzo-abril" and "mayo-junio" periods in advance, ensuring they were not financially affected by the electoral process.

Ariadna Montiel Reyes, head of the Secretariat of Welfare, emphasized that this month, a total of 15,922,381 beneficiaries will receive support, requiring an investment of 88,477.6 million pesos. This financial assistance is crucial for many elderly citizens, particularly those living in vulnerable conditions.

The payment schedule for May is organized alphabetically by the first letter of the beneficiaries' last names. Payments will begin on May 7, with the following schedule:

  • Wednesday, May 7 - A
  • Thursday, May 8 - B
  • Friday, May 9 - C
  • Monday, May 12 - C
  • Tuesday, May 13 - D, E, F
  • Wednesday, May 14 - G
  • Thursday, May 15 - G
  • Friday, May 16 - H, I, J, K
  • Monday, May 19 - L
  • Tuesday, May 20 - M
  • Wednesday, May 21 - M
  • Thursday, May 22 - N, Ñ, O
  • Friday, May 23 - P, Q
  • Monday, May 26 - R
  • Tuesday, May 27 - R
  • Wednesday, May 28 - S
  • Thursday, May 29 - T, U, V
  • Friday, May 30 - W, X, Y, Z

It’s important to note that beneficiaries do not need to withdraw their funds immediately on the payment day, as the money will remain in their accounts until they choose to withdraw it. The Banco Bienestar, which facilitates these payments, operates branches from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and also has ATMs available 24/7.

In addition to the Pensión Bienestar for the elderly, the program also extends support to individuals with disabilities. Beneficiaries of the Pensión para el Bienestar de las Personas con Discapacidad will receive 3,200 pesos this month, with payments also scheduled from May 7 to May 30, 2025, following a similar alphabetical order for distribution.

As with the elderly pension, it is not necessary for beneficiaries to withdraw their money on the same day it is deposited. They can use their Banco del Bienestar cards to make purchases directly at stores equipped with bank terminals, avoiding withdrawal fees associated with ATM transactions.

However, some concerns have arisen regarding new withdrawal fees implemented by various banks. For instance, Afirme charges $30.00, while Banamex charges $30.74 for withdrawals from ATMs outside of Banco del Bienestar. Other banks, including Santander and BBVA, have similar fees, which could diminish the financial support received by elderly beneficiaries. To avoid these costs, authorities recommend that beneficiaries withdraw their funds exclusively from Banco del Bienestar ATMs.

For those seeking assistance or clarification regarding their pension status, the Línea Bienestar is available at 800-639-42-64. This resource allows beneficiaries to address any questions they may have about their payments or the overall process.

The Pensión Bienestar program represents a significant effort by the Mexican government to support its aging population, providing essential financial resources that can enhance the quality of life for millions. As the program continues to evolve, it remains crucial for beneficiaries to stay informed about payment schedules and available resources to maximize their benefits.

In summary, while the Pensión Bienestar provides crucial support to many elderly citizens, it is essential for beneficiaries to navigate the system carefully, especially in light of new fees and the impact of electoral processes on payment schedules. The government’s commitment to supporting its citizens is evident, but beneficiaries must remain proactive in managing their finances effectively.
